PG Desi "DJ" Carton (transfer to Marquette)

i wonder if the fickle ncaa will grant an immediate waiver only if carton transfers to a program near davenport. iowa is the closest program. iowa state, northern iowa, illinois, and wisconsin are all somewhat equidistant at 2.5ish hours. if carton's issue instead centered on his relationship with ohio state, then the ncaa might grant wider latitude. but given that the issue is his mental health, which he stated was present while in high school, perhaps a waiver comes with stipulations.

but it's the ncaa, so who the hell knows? with the uncertainty created by covid-19, i suspect that the ncaa is going to very lax in granting waivers.

Well, I cannot say that I am completely surprised by this development. Noticed way back in his thread that he was considering that SHIT school up north. That better not happen for a couple reasons. I would think it would have to be one of the Iowa schools so he could get a waiver. Hope that he gets his health under control because I have a couple members of my family who deal with mental health issues and I guess I will never understand that problem. Adios DJ

From the above article:
Carton shared time with junior transfer C.J. Walker at point guard and therefore did not get the minutes needed to vault himself into the first round of the NBA Draft in just one year.

The frustration of that may have contributed to the mental health concerns he voiced upon stepping away from the team on Jan. 30.

That is strange if it was his lack of minutes that led to his mental health issues. If I remember the season correctly, Carton's minutes were increasing and Carton was playing his best basketball at the time of his stepping away.

Honestly, I feel like Holt knows how to land quality players to fill his roster, and since it looks like DJ didn't want to accept his role within the team & the fact that he had to earn the starting role, it is better for OSU that he moves on. At the end of the day, nobody gets handed a starting role no matter how talented. You have to have your players completely buy in to the team concept, sacrifice their ego somewhat and put the team first in order for the whole to be greater than the sum of the parts. DJ certainly may be a better fit for a program like Iowa where they like to push the pace a bit more. Clearly Holt already found a way to make the team work even without him, so I have confidence that both parties will have a chance to be better off.
