PG Aaron Craft (B1G 6th MOY '11, Def POY '12, Acad AA, Dolomiti En. TR - Italy)

Yep... While I'm sure glad we got to watch him play four years for our Buckeyes and not in some other uniform and as much as he has meant to Ohio State he isn't in the same league as Jerry Lucas, Gary Bradds, Dennis Hopson, Jim Jackson, Michael Redd, Evan Turner... just to name a few.
John Havlicek, Larry Siegfried, Mel Nowell (amazing having 4 guys off the same team who could be considered), and Jared Sullinger...just to name a few more.

Not sure where you're getting the 4-7 games--you should be wanting to see him play another 10 (4 in the BTT and 6 in the NCAAs).
Don't get me wrong - I would love to see him play in another 10. But at some point (at least in my case), realistic overcomes optimistic. I do believe, if this team can keep its confidence and concentration up, they could possibly play another 6 games (3 in BTT, 3 in NCAA). Past that I believe is wishful thinking. Trust me, I would love to be proven wrong.

I know you just named a "few" but one big one that you forgot was Clark Kellogg and probably Jim Clemens but you did not forget your favorite:wink:

Kellogg and Clemens both deserve consideration, as does Bill Hosket. Leading the team in scoring and rebounding 3 straight years is pretty impressive. None of this takes away from Craft, or what he accomplished. A fan favorite? Definitely. A very good player? Definitely. Was I glad to cheer for him for 4 years? Definitely. One of the all time greats at tOSU? Probably not.

In my lifetime, I have never had a tougher time saying goodbye to a player. I know we are not done yet, but seeing his last game in Value City...incredible finish to his (regular season) career here and I never wanted this day to come, but I knew it would. Izzo's quote on the game ending like it did being "poetic justice" was basically dead on. He made that play in the last seconds of a huge game and even more remarkable is that he will make that play in the final seconds while we are up by 50 on McNobody State.

All I have left to say is that we could use him in the fall, I hope UFM starts lobbying as soon as the basketball season is over.

You know how you go on vacation for a week and relish that Monday and Tuesday thinking about how much time you have left on vacation? Then you wake up on Wednesday and realize that it's halfway over and get a little sad?

Yeah. It's almost Wednesday in Aaron Craft's OSU basketball career.

God, I love this kid.

And it's time to start packing the bags for the long drive home. It's going to be a long time before we see another player like Aaron Craft.

Thinking more about it I think it is more difficult to see Aaron's home career come to an end because all the other players that have been mentioned above were so much more gifted athletically and Aaron played a much different style. I do not think he ever took one play off or took anything for granted. Not saying the other guys did not give it their all but there was just something about Craft. He was the rosy cheeked kid who would never back down from anything. He was the target of so much verbal abuse from opposing fans but always kept his cool. Plus, out of all the guys mentioned above not many of them, in fact none of them, were 3 time All-Americans.

I like Shannon Scott as a player too, but he and Craft just weren't a good fit as a backcourt. It hurt both of them to play together.

Too bad they didn't get Rodney Hood. Craft, Lenzelle, Hood, Ross, Amir with Scott and Slam coming off the bench would have made a serious run.

Kinda weird to see this thread turn a bit about who was a better player here than Aaron. Not what it's about, and for a few to mention Jim Cleamons (who was a better player) and TOTALLY butcher his name(?)

The greatest compliment that I could ever give to Aaron is this. I believe he's 21, maybe 22? I want to put him in one of those fictional suspended animation chambers where you basically freeze someone to keep them from aging. I have a daughter in 8th grade. Four years from now when she's a Senior, on Prom Night, I would like to "unfreeze" Aaron Craft and have him be the guy picking her up that night. This kid is what Basketball fans want on their team. He's what Administrators want representing their Universities. He's what parents want their children to grow up to be. And he's what fathers want their "baby girls" to end up marrying.

THANK YOU young Mr. Craft for your contributions to this University. Throw out all the awards and accolades you've accumulated for your work on the basketball court in your time here. Because they, in NO way, will come close to what awaits you out there in the real world!

Peace
