PF Othello Hunter (Maccabi Tel Aviv BC)

IMO he isn't really part of the Offense, when he scores usually it's from rebounding

Sorry I'm busting your balls, but being a put back man is definitely one of the top 3 roles I assign a 4-man. Without those putbacks we may not have won.

Oh and is there any question about Othello's defense...with those monkey arms and such.

you are not busting. I agree with you. What I meant is that he isn't a "go to guy" rather a 2nd echelon scorer, a role player. Which he does very well.
And No ,His D is Great.

Othello Hunter was such an unknown two summers ago that after Ohio State men?s basketball coaches tried unsuccessfully to sneak him in for a recruiting visit, four other schools showed up at his Florida junior college the next week to introduce themselves.

Cont'd....

Hunter's two biggest performances came in our two biggest wins, @ Illinois and @ MSU that should say something about his importance. When Hunter is on the floor with Oden points in the paint are very hard to come by for opponents.

"The X Factor". Oden gets them to pump fake about 3 times before shooting and O' comes in and swats it into the stands. I love it! The guy is all over the paint on both ends of the floor and that makes this team very strong. On a night when our guards are shooting 3's well, Oden and Hunter in the paint are an absolute nightmare for opponents. Hunter may very well get some Big10 recognition if he keeps up his play as of late.

That will be hard with guys like Tyler Smith and Carl Landry putting up the stats they are and Hunter just being that down and dirty guy that does the little things that arent recognized in the stat column...

The only problem that I havewith Hunter playing is that he does take away the outside threat that Harris and Cook provide when they are in the game. I know that both of those guys have been inconsistent throughout the season but it's just the fact that the opposition has to be worried about Harris or DQ lighting it up. I know we have seen Hunter go outside and hit some shots but that is not his forte.

Having said the above, I know that Hunter brings a lot to the table when he is on the floor. However, the floor needs to be spread so Oden can operate at his best.

That is not a problem for us it is a problem for the other teams, it allows Matta to be versatile with his lineups and put in the lineup that he thinks will best suit us at the given time...

cook plays the 2/3 hunter the 4 harris 3/4 (usually the 4)

hunters role is to eat space on offense, essentially in the high post or somewhere else he makes it so 4 cant double down on oden. defensively to eat space. in eating space oden/hunter can dominate the paint.

harris allows the team to create space by his perm play. what it gives you is two different options. essentially allows the team/matta to dictate what type of game they want to play. if they want 4 around one or a more traditional 2 big man game.

having the ability to dictate to teams changes what you can do and allow you to do so many more things. essentially with harris and hunter you can have the best of both worlds, well to some extent obviously but point made.

hunters development and improvement will help down the line against the floridas of the world who go with a horford, noah line up. i hope that makes sense?

I was thinking more along the lines of honorable mention or 6th man type recognition. I'm not sure he qualifies for 6th man though since he started quite a few games already.
