PF Nikola Kecman (official thread)

okay, I don't want to sound like a noob, but is this kid going to come in next season and be able to play in place of KK?
I don't think he is coming in to play "in place" of KK but I do think he will bring a dimension to the team which was lacking this past season and that was outside shooting. From all reports, he is a very good outside shooter and in that sense will take up some of KK's outside shooting. He will not give us the post presence that KK gave because he only weighs 215 lbs. He will give us some added height underneath which will be missed by KK's departure oh will certainly not play the minutes that KK played this year. They will be able to help us with his outside shooting but certainly will not get the same type of playing time that KK got. We probably will play with a much smaller lineup, the majority of the time, next year

It Should all be very interesting if all the rumors don't shake out...

But that's not what I expect.

From what I can gather, Kecman is almost like a SF with the athleticism of a PF...he likes to hang around the perimeter and take the three...

I have no idea about his off the dribble game, but like Litlbuck said, don't expect much in the post, but that isn't what we are looking for out of him with Mullens in the paint already...

Also don't expect a huge defensive presence and a huge rebounder...He only averaged 3.5 rebounds at a small school at 6'9''...

I am thinking about 15-20 minutes/game depending on his shooting, the score, etc...

He will bring a different look than Dallas will and will also stretch the defense, and give us some needed height in the paint either in the zone or man to man defense...Bigger PF will eat him alive tho I think, so I see us sticking with the zone, and maybe trying to utilize Mullens or Lauderdale from the weakside in terms of block shots and rebounding...

 I don't understand what you are trying to say Re:rumors
Read the Diebler thread.

Frankly, Koufos's departure cannot have a bad effect on team chemistry. He did not seem to gel with the rest of the team. Diebler did, but could never find a way to hit the ocean from the beach. For a guy who was supposed to be a great scorer, he sure was ineffectual last season.

On a completely separate note, anyone who expects Kecman and Simmons to be anything other than minor role players is, I think, expecting way too much. Simmons was player of the year, granted, but in D2 JUCO. That's Columbus State territory, everyone -- not at all like the NBDL. I expect their play to be on a level generally consistent with Kyle Madsen and PJ Hill.

PJ Hill is not as bad as some make him out to be...

Simmons and Kecman were both wanted by quite a few teams....Not just a late signing like Hill...

Kecman will need time this year as we are light on the 4 spot, and Simmons will see some time as a back up point or maybe some 2g...

hard for me to say that, its hard to get the team dynamics from the games personally.

what are you expectations for a frosh? im not at all disappointed with 21 mins 6 pts and 2 boards from a bench player...

hes not as good as you think he is. hes a role player. an 8th man type player...

i have no idea where they fit in but the reality was this years team didnt have all the parts. i made light of that early in the year saying matta had an interesint thing with lots of options ahead. just the reality last years team didnt have a front line that worked well together. thats nothing against anyone of the players. jsut the reality the did not compliment each other wel...

Go to kenpom.com and compare Diebler's stats with any other player in the B11. You'll see an effective FG% of 41.8 percent. That is just dreadful, putting him safely in the bottom 10% of all players in the offensively-challenged Big Ten Conference. Nobody on Kansas was less than 9 percent higher than that - even their scrubs. My expectations are a lot higher than that -- as I'm sure were Jon's.

... unless you are describing his offensive production, which is worse.

I love PJ's energy, his enthusiasm, and his effort on D. But none of that can fully compensate for the fact he just can't score.

He is a PG...It is not all about scoring...It is about managing the offense, playing D and being the QB out there...

He had a couple nice plays in the NIT...I am not expecting him to be a 35 minute/game guy, but I don't think 15 or so is out of the question, especially if he can develop a little better jumper over the summer...

If PJ Hill averages 15 min/game next season, it will be a long season.
If Hill averages 15 min/game next season then it means he is buying into Matta's program and is improving. He doesn't need to score, he just needs to bring the ball up the court and distribute to his scorers.

Which he has yet to show he can do at this level. This is the same plight we have with all of our PG candidates next year. One will have to step up and be the man...I am just not convinced PG is that guy.
