PF Jared Sullinger (2x 1st Team ALL B1G & All American, Anyang KGC, S.Korea)

The Sully watch

Matta said on his weekly call-in show on WBNS radio last night that Sullinger was in a rehabilitation pool yesterday and ?said he feels great. A heck of a lot better than he was.? But Matta shed no light on the chances of the All-America center playing at Kansas. ?He looks like he?s moving well. We?ll just keep playing it by ear. I don?t want to rush anything. Once he feels comfortable, we?ll get him back in the fold.?

Ohio State men's basketball: Sullinger's back better, but status still uncertain
By Bob Baptist
The Columbus Dispatch Friday December 9, 2011

Jared Sullinger told coach Thad Matta he ?woke up and was dancing? yesterday morning.

That still wasn?t enough for Matta to say his All-America center will play on Saturday when No. 2 Ohio State visits No. 13 Kansas.

?Jared is feeling better. He?s doing more every day,? Matta said yesterday. ?But quite honestly, I don?t know if we?ll know until Saturday whether he?s going to play or not. We?ve got two more days to look at it, but (we) don?t know for sure what he?s going to do.?

Sullinger experienced back spasms during the Buckeyes game on Nov. 29 against Duke and was held out of a game on Saturday against Texas-Pan American as a precaution.

Sullinger?s father, Satch, said the spasms were caused by plantar fasciitis in Jared?s right foot, which he has had since practice started in October. The condition ?kind of messed up his gait a little bit,? Satch Sullinger said.

But team doctors do not think the fasciitis caused the spasms, the team?s athletic trainer, Vince O?Brien, said. Sullinger was not made available for an interview yesterday. On Tuesday, he wrote on his Twitter account that he was ?taking a final with back spasms.?

Asked if Sullinger risks injury if he plays against Kansas, or whether it depends on his pain tolerance, Matta said, ?It?s kind of on him, just sort of how he feels.?

Matta said he will err on the side of caution.

?As I?ve told him, and I told Satch, I?m thinking big picture here much more than Saturday?s game or anything along those lines,? Matta said. ?I want to make sure he is as good as he can possibly be and (there is) no further risk of anything else going on.?

My guess is that Sullinger plays; then he can rest for our next game -- forgive me but I believe it's central South Carolina Home Economics Community College... and then be back for SC. Like a hockey or baseball coach, sometimes you just play guys in the bigger games.

After SC he could rest up until we start Big Ten play.

I say he plays 28 minutes, has 15 points, 5 rebounds. He doesn't have to play defense, does he?

It is curious the way Matta says he won't rush him or push him to play, but then he almost calls him out by saying, "it's all on him".

Sullinger dancing in advance of showdown

Turns out, we may be treated to Jared Sullinger vs. Thomas Robinson, after all. "[Sullinger] just told me he feels great," said Ohio State coach Thad Matta. "He said he feels a lot better. He said he woke up dancing this morning." That's good news for the second-ranked Buckeyes considering Sullinger missed last weekend's win against Texas Pan-American with back spasms. Consequently, the 6-foot-9 All-American had been unofficially listed as questionable for Saturday's game at No. 13 Kansas. But questionable has now turned to probable, meaning the most likely scenario has the two prospects ranked first and second in the CBSSports.com National Player of the Year Watch banging bodies on Saturday.

South Carolina (the real one) is terrible this year. There's probably no need for him in that game.

From a article previously posted

I guess this is what I do not understand when it comes to Sully's condition. His father says that it is plantar fasciitis while Ohio State is saying it is more of a disk problem. The plantar fasciitis is more of a foot problem which can alter your gait which could ultimately lead to a back problem but from people who I know that have had plantar fasciitis it hurts like hell and I don't even see how he could have played in the games that he did. This is not a quick rest and recover situation if in fact he does have plantar fasciitis because it will keep aggravating his back.

I've had some plantar issues from running which caused me to alter my gait as well (and like Sully that led to other injuries). But it did not, and has not, keep me from running.

Same, I have both planter fasciitis and back spasms, but the former does not cause the latter. It's still a blunder to me why Sullinger didn't play. Back spasms are manageable.

I know this goes without saying but still needs to be mention.....there is a good chance there is something more significantly wrong with Jared than back spasms.

i'm starting to get this exact same feeling. Hopefully it's just indigestion
