PF Jared Sullinger (2x 1st Team ALL B1G & All American, Anyang KGC, S.Korea)

Fox: Ranking the best inside-outside duos

1. OHIO STATE
The duo: Jared Sullinger and Aaron Craft
The buzz: After averaging 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds, Sullinger was the undisputed national freshman of the year and a consensus first-team All-American. Had he left for the NBA draft, he would have been one of the first picks. Undoubtedly, he was a major reason the Buckeyes won 34 games. Craft arrived with less fanfare than Sullinger, but he was huge as a freshman point man. He played starter's minutes off the bench, and averaged 4.8 assists and played solid defense.

I personally would have the best duo as Buford and Sully. I'm somewhat surprised they picked Craft.
For purposes of that article, I think the reason that Craft was taken over Buford was because he is strictly a PG while Buford is more of a wing player. If you look at the other combinations, they are all #1 and #5. If you took wing players from other teams along with their center, the rankings would be completely different.

Ah ok, thanks

Apparently Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless were trolling hard during First Take about Sully's game last night. Surprise, surprise. I thought he played a hell of a game last night.

I don't think he played poorly by any means, but I didn't think it was one of his best games. Would like to see more work on the offensive boards from Sully. He also didn't have great positioning on his post-ups last night from what I remember. Seemed like he was content to catch the ball off the block. He still got his points though, though some were pretty ugly.

The Buckeyes missed only 24 shots, and the Bucks got 7 offensive boards. Offensive rebounding isn't a problem for this team.

I clearly said I thought Sully could use work on the offensive glass, not that it was a team problem. Since you're interested in stats though, Sully had only 1 offensive board vs. Florida and Duke. Compare that to last year, where he pulled 8 against UK in the tournament, 5 against UF early in the year, 3 and 3 in the two games against Purdue, etc. Haven't seen that effort yet this year.

Yet offensive rebounding is fundamentally a team statistic, and so my response remains the same.

When Sully needs to be there on the O-boards, if we don't have someone else taking charge, he will. But he's the sort of player who doesn't force the issue. And that's why his stat relative to O-boards has dropped, and why it doesn't disturb me in the least.

Great rebounders don't wait and see if a teammate will get the job done before they start trying. It's the mentality that every ball is his, which I saw from him at times last year. Again, haven't seen that same effort this year. That may not disturb you now, but he will be needed on the offensive glass this year because we won't shoot 60% from the field against every good team we play.

I noticed he walked slowly with a slight limp off the floor after the game against Duke. I thought it was just regular bumps and bruises. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or not, but just an observation from the game.

Get well soon, Sully. We need ya buddy.
