PF/C Kosta Koufos (CSKA Moscow)

IF he comes back, he'll get that chance to play more outside. Mullens' inside game will allow Kosta to do what he does best and show the world what he can really do. Boy would that be a lot of fun to watch.

Otherwise, best of luck to Kosta. This is gotta be the lad's hardest decision of his life thus far: stay home in Ohio, go "back home" to Greece, or make the big jump to the league.

You summed it up perfectly for me BuckTwenty. I love the guy, he's got a tremendous soft touch for a big man, but he needs work; defense, toughness and overall gamesmanship. Inside-outside, who cares, you are 7-0 tall. You have to do it all and you have to find a way to win!!

He , in coming back, could make huge strides w/Mullins there...the Buckeyes could truly be a force to be reckoned with...and he's a Lottery Pick for sure!

Instead, my gut tells me this is going to end in a career long struggle at best and/or sad obscurity at worst for him. Hope I'm wrong!

As far as what basketball I've watched this season: I'm a Suns season ticket holder and watch roughly 25 games a season live. The fundamentals of basketball are a thing of the past. The teams who are the most athletic win the majority of games when in the past teams with less athleticism and more teamwork could go very far. The Spurs are more of a team than any other in the league with just the right playmakers at positions. I would say the Suns are maybe the most athletic team in the NBA (maybe the Celtics) but they falter when the shots arent falling because they lose their team cohesiveness. They cannot beat the Spurs because 5 individuals cannot beat 1 unit. Overall, the NBA as a product, sucks.

I have never read so much crap in one paragraph.
If you observe sports in general and especially basketball, teams with teamwork and fundamentals win the championships.
NBA as a product doesn?t suck especially this year where all the games have been so competitive and upredictable.
The thing with the NBA games as well as the season (including playoffs ) is that both are a marathon.
You might have an athletic team dominating in the first half (guess which team is that?? SUNS) and a team with brains, defensive and offensive fundamentals as well as strategy winning at the end.
In basketball this will always happen because the game requires brains, fundamentals, strategy and most of all a good coach!
Athleticism can only get you up to a certain point not a championship.

Suns are only in the playoffs because there is a good playmaker in the team with brains and fundamentals. If an athletic only point guard was there they wouldnt even make the playoffs this year.

Regarding Kostas, who clearly has good fundamentals for his size, I believe that if he improves his footwork and strenght he can surely make it in the NBA, maybe not as a rookie but in a couple of years. Not to mention that a lot will depend in which team he goes. He surely will improve a lot in the NBA much more than he will improve if he stayed in college or if he came to Greece.
So as I see it he will do his best in the camps to get up in the ranks if gets a decent spot I see him going for the NBA. I just hope he comes over and plays for Greece in the summer (and helps us beat TEAM USA again...) : )

PS: You are a season ticket holder and only went to 25 games...thats a waste.... : )

I just think/wish that in this situation he would realize how much fun next year would be and stay another year and be so much more ready.... but what the heck. Oden is not getting any better AND he is wealthy.

He will never be an NBA All Star for example, I'd bet that in a minute, but as someone said, Darko makes 6.5 mil per year, by which I guess they mean that he is happy?

Might not be any turning back if this happens

Koufos might sign with agent before NBA workouts, mother says

Ohio State freshman Kosta Koufos might not wait until he works out for NBA teams before he signs with an agent, his mother said yesterday. Such a move would make him ineligible to play for the Buckeyes again.

Kathy Koufos said factors such as Kosta's projected position in the first round of the NBA draft and his value to teams in Europe -- not only Greece -- could influence the 7-foot forward to decide to play professionally next season rather than return to Ohio State.

"The unique situation with Kosta right now is he has opportunities that some of other players may not have," Kathy Koufos said. "One is the (NBA) draft, the other is overseas interest."

She said Kosta "probably" will attend the pre-draft camp May 27-30 in Orlando. "Whether he plays or not depends on the feedback we get" regarding his position in the first round, she said

You might be one of maybe two or three people who disagreed with my point. You're entitled to your opinion. But the NBA has digressed terribly over the past 10-15 years, otherwise the Europeans wouldnt be playing in there so much.

I only went to 25 games because I split with a partner.

Surprising comment given that Kosta is projected as a top-20 pick in most NBA draft mocks.

I do not put much stock in mock drafts.......my opinion is that he will eventually find himself overseas regardless of what happens in the upcoming draft.....he may play himself into a lottery pick or into the second round......for every mock draft projecting him in the top 20, there are other projecting him in the second round......workouts will be key, but I do not see a long term NBA player....that was the point of my previous comment.

I would be happy if we never again get involved with a recruit who has a mommy that wont keep her mouth closed. Between KK and Cook last year, I'm done with the overbearing mommie's. When you can become your own man, you can come play. We did the same thing when we were kids. You avoided playing with the kid who's mom wouldn't leave them alone.

Kinda like Tressel, and I agree that Matta could help himself as well going in that direction...

Not blaming anyones parents in particular just saying that you let your kids go when they go off to play college ball and you take a step back and watch...

Ohio State center Kosta Koufos is making the biggest mistake. His presence on the list represents either a complete waste of time or a serious miscalculation of his current value.
Koufos appears to be under the impression he was played out of position with the Buckeyes, which is ludicrous. There isn't a worthwhile power forward on the planet he can guard now, possibly ever. He needs to learn to play the post; when he's guarded by big men, he'll be able to draw them away from the goal and burn them with his prodigious ball skills. As an OSU freshman, he was so bothered by big defenders he struggled to make layups. And, for the record, he made only 35 percent of his 3-point shots.
Koufos is a top-3 pick in the right draft. This isn't that draft.

Koufos to turn pro, won't return to Ohio State
Tuesday, April 29, 2008
BY Todd Porter
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER
PLAIN TWP. In a little more than a week, Kosta Koufos did some soul searching. And the GlenOak High School graduate and Ohio State basketball star came to the conclusion his heart is in basketball.

Now so will his wallet.

Koufos told The Repository late Tuesday night that he has decided to turn pro and will not return to Ohio State. Last week, Koufos said he would test the NBA waters, but not hire an agent and maintain his college eligibility.

"We got good communication from a lot of places ... and he has decided if he wants to do this, he wants to do it with 100 percent effort and it's difficult to do the preparation that needs to take place and be a student," Koufos' mother, Kathy said.

Ohio State is on academic quarters and this quarter doesn't end until June, which conflicts with NBA rookie workouts.

"Everybody who played basketball when they were younger dreams of this day when you can make it your job," said Kosta Koufos, who averaged 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds for the Buckeyes and helped lead them to an NIT championship. "God blessed me with this talent and I'm just trying to make the best of it."
