Memet Okur is the comparison I see thrown around a lot...

that's kinda funny...I used that comparison off the top of my head a few months ago in this thread.

After the NIT, I think he's more athletic than Okur. He needs to develop his outside shot to be considered as good of a shooter.

Right now, I kind of think of him as a real poor mans Dirk Nowitski(way over-used comparison). Dirk has a much better handle and outside shot, but I think Kosta has the same body type and athleticism around the hoop. It will be interesting to see how whoever drafts him utilizes his game.

Yeah I see a little bit of both of them...

As for a team using his game...If he gets in the wrong system he could be sitting at the end of the bench...His game doesn't translate that well to like a run and gun type game, or a drive and kick type offense...But it translate well to a pick n roll or pick n pop much like you see the Spurs run with Duncan or the Jazz run with Williams and Okur or Boozer...

Everyone touted Kosta's outside shooting coming in, and to be honest I still don't see it. His 3 point shot isnt that good, its pretty flat and he only shot it at a 35% clip. I don't think he has Dirk's athleticism or handle on the ball.

But I tell you what, I don't know if I have seen anyone with a prettier 14 foot baseline jumper in a long long time. He made himself a ton of money in the NIT showing off that shot.

Kosta Koufos files papers to leave Ohio State

PLAIN TWP. More than a week ago Kosta Koufos decided he would put his college basketball career at Ohio State on hold and dip his toe in the NBA waters. Since then, the 7-foot center and GlenOak High School graduate has decided to just dive in.

Koufos told The Repository late Tuesday night that he would forgo his remaining eligibility at Ohio State and make himself available for the NBA Draft or possibly play professionally overseas.

Last week, Koufos said he would maintain his college eligibility and go through the pre-draft workouts to gauge where he would be picked.

That changed Tuesday when Koufos said he filed papers with OSU Athletic Director Gene Smith and informed him of his decision to leave the school.

"I felt like this was the route I needed to take in my career and this was the most necessary route," Koufos said. "I've heard a lot of positive stuff. As of now, I'm just working hard and trying my best to reach my goal."

Damn! It would have been great to see BJ and KK together on the court! My personal opinion, but I think these kids should stay in school longer. Very rare, but if so one happens to injure himself permanently, they are basically screwed! Oh well, good luck Kosta!

this is what is interesting, what kind of sets did matta run a lot of? the double reserving high ball screen. you see that a lot in the nba. im a firm believer that thad did it to help kosta and greg. dont get me wrong they are great sets and they work, but i firmly believe part of the reasoning was to help these kids at the next level. also interesting that weve heard people say that both guys didnt like it...

ive said for a long time right now its his 6/8 to 16/18 foot game that seperates the kid. hes not all that great on the block and not all that great out much farther than that. his ability to create mismatches at that range is kostas biggest strength at this point. ive said this for a long time.

It would not suprise me at all to see him this high.....the NBA draft is unpredictable to say the least.
i think its predicitable, its just that with 1 or 2 picks its hard to build through the draft. thats why you see reaches and interesting things. you also have so much turnover in the nba, especially in a year like this. i wouldnt be suprised to see a couple of teams and good ones totally blown apart by management this year.

And the good news -

Latest Ohio State news

Koufos leaving won't impact OSU academically in '08

Kosta Koufos' departure will not cost Ohio State a men's basketball scholarship, at least in the short term.

In fact, Greg Oden's early exit last year won't result in a lost scholarship, either, according to Ohio State faculty athletics representative John Bruno.

Bruno said today that the NCAA has approved Ohio State's academic improvement plan for basketball and informed the school it is likely to escape penalty for a deficient Academic Progress Rate score.

Financially, this is probably the right move. I don't agree that Koufos can become a top-5 by sticking around an playing another year or two of college.

He has the skill set, but he sorely lacks the athleticism to be an impact player in the NBA right now. And his weakness would not become a strength by staying in school.

I know the opinion will not be greeted well around these parts, but Koufos will never be a double-figure scorer in the NBA. He just won't see the floor often enough. Most NBA guards rebound better than him. He doesn't have the strength or athleticism to stick with the 3s and 4s in the league on defense. And offensively, he cannot create his own shot. He can make that mid-range jumper all day... if he's open ... and if he's on the floor. But he's such a liability defensively and on the boards, he'll never see that time.

Just wanted to comment on a couple things...

Warriors, not a good fit at all...They like to run, KK is a half court player...

As for Thad's offense helping out Greg and KK, I think it was ran a lot because of the pg's we had and shooters...

Should be interesting to see if we stick with that next year or they depend more on the wings and BJ, with the youth at the point...

As far as KK not having the athleticism, I disagree with that some...He isn't great but guys with offensive game get by some...Mehmet Okur doesn't have great athleticism either...

As far as his offense and strength they are going to improve with time and that is why I expect him to be a solid NBA player, but will need a year or two to develop his game more...
