PF/C Kosta Koufos (CSKA Moscow)

I know, just is something he will have to work on against guys that he could have to guard that will step out on the perimeter, especially if he is going to man the 3 or the 4 position...
i wouldn't expect anything less of kosta and his coaches. aging alone will take care of some of kosta's awkwardness. i'm sure that nowitzki at the same age wasn't nearly as nimble as he is now.

Nike Jordan All-American Classic: Main Event Recap - Blue Team

draft express
Kosta Koufos has an up-and-down game, not really showing off the perimeter shot he's so well known for, and struggling at times with his touch and feel in the post. He did rebound the ball well, though, and his touch game around as the game went on, as he scored 14 points by the time it was all said and done.

In a game where post-up pivots don't usually get to showcase themselves, Kosta Koufos actually got a good share of back-to-the-basket attempts, though his lack of polish was evident on many of them. He missed on his first handful of attempts, sometimes badly, be it on lay-ups or fade-away shots from five feet out. It seems at times that he will just turn around and throw it towards the basket before getting a better sense of where he is in relation to the hoop and concentrating on putting up a more accurate attempt. In one sequence he missed a five-foot fade-away shot off the glass, then got his own rebound and badly missed the putback attempt as well.

As the game went on, Koufos settled down a bit and did a better job in the post, scoring on consecutive and-1's at one point, one coming on a jumper off the glass from five feet out and the other coming on a lay-up at the basket. He also had one very nice move where he spun into a mini-hook shot from five feet out, doing so off of an offensive rebound. His other scores came on a transition lay-up and a wide-open jam near the hoop in the halfcourt, as well as by getting to the free-throw line on post-up attempts.

Koufos did a pretty good job rebounding the ball, using his positioning and size mostly, and also had one nice transition block where he ran the floor well to catch his opponent from behind. Defensively, Koufos didn't get to exhibit much in the halfcourt in this relatively sloppy game, and there weren't any post-up bigs on the other team that he got the opportunity to match-up with.

Continued (other players)...
i guess this is their recap of a recap of a recap.

a number of posters here and on other sites have discussed which nba player koufos is most like. nowitzki's name is thrown around, though several posters note the obvious differences. gasol and even duncan have been mentioned. koufos may share some of these players' qualities, but i see no other other player that best typifies kosta's play than andrea bargnani.

bargnani is a 7-foot, 250-pound power forward. he has excellent mobility for his size, shoots well from the outside, and has good ball handling skills. you won't see him post up with his back to basket very often or all that well, though he does use his quickness to drive to the basket. he plays much of his game around the perimeter, setting up pick-and-pops. he is not a strong player and doesn't have a great leaping ability, but he is certainly faster than most players his size.

I think KK will have more of a mid range, and some back to the basket game...

Really there arent many guys like KK that you can compare him to...

bargnani has more of a mid-range game, too. highlight clips aren't too often going to show a bunch of 15-foot jump shots. also, bargnani did play more with his back to the bucket, but that was before he got to the nba. of all the players that koufos can be compared to, the one that makes the most sense is bargnani. it isn't even close. koufos is as close to a mirror of bargnani as any player could be. sure, there are differences. no two players are the same.

I really never heard of this guy until I watch the clip. While I realize he is older than KK, he seems much more developed physically and, in my eyes, much quicker.

4 years make a lot of difference to a 7-footer, especially when he receives top-notch conditioning guidance. i see nothing about koufos that tells me he won't get a bit quicker.

Oh I'm not saying that he won't. I didn't realize that the guy was 4 years older. Let's just hope Kosta improves his quickness and stamina at Ohio State for those four years:)

bingo, Thats the other player with gasol that KK reminds me of and like you said 4 years younger, amazing. He shoots 3's, dribbles with the ball a lot and is pretty creative with the ball to involve the whole team. How many 7 footers can do that during tha game and with his young age. I'm happy he's a :osu: Nowitski developed a lot from his first few years and KK is way ahead of him already. Just think how amazing he will be by age 25 with great coaching.

Koufomania

Hi all from Greece just celebrating the win of Euroleague with Panathinaikos.

During the brake of the game I had a discussion with Coach of the National team of Greece...yes I sneaked into the VIP lounge!!!
I went straight up to him once he finished a interview.
Coach what is going to happen with Koufos?? he is amazing I said!

Then I sensed some kind of disapointment from him...
His response was: "we will see, we have talented players in Greece also he responded"

After asking around I got the message that Kostas will not attend the preparation of the Greek National Team and even if he does he will not participate in any tournament.

The reason is quite simple coach Matta wants him in Ohio especially after the departure of Oden.

This is clearly the wrong decision for Kosta?s career ,he probably doesn?t know that yet. But I strongly believe playing at a National Team level is harder, needs more muscle and more teamwork (areas in which Kostas needs to improve).

By the way I also saw some videos of Kostas at the Jordan Classic he seems to have gained a lot of weight and muscle....

Welcome back......in regards to his decision to not play with the National team...the decision was made by Kosta himself and he felt he needed to come in early on campus during the summer and play with the team and that was more important to him at this stage. Who can blame him for his decision? He wants to start the next step in his career.
