People to Punch, Pet Peeves, and General Vexations (mega-merge)

Please explain.
Today it's Intuit. They actively run commercials telling people my services aren't worth anything while selling products that compete directly with our professional software that I buy from them. They've effectively discontinued our ability to offer a particular service except that we are grandfathered in (for now). They are discontinuing the desktop version of their main product in lieu of the subscription based online version that is complete shit. And today, they arbitrarily turned off my ability to process something for a client and when I called in, they (overseas, of course) refused to speak with me because I'm not the client even though the subscription I am calling about is in my name and my business's name. They refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor. They refused to confirm that the subscription was active last week and something went wrong on their end. 3rd agent I spoke to finally looked the subscription name rather than client name and was able to confirm that the issue was on their end and reactivate the service. I try to be the nicest person in the world to customer service reps, but that went out the window today.

They have bought up all sorts of good products (CreditKarma, Mint, mailchimp) and then either kill or ruin the product in no time at all. Plenty of money for that. Plenty to name a sports arena. Plenty to slap a patch on an EPL club. And yet their product gets worse and more expensive every year.

They actively lobby Congress not to simplify the tax code. They offer a free version of TurboTax but then hide that version and push a paid version that portrays itself as free while hitting people with fees at the end of the process.

They just fucking suck.

I want to hear the Kroger rant.

Fuck them for making us do homework before we can buy their products at the advertised price. And even when we do everything we're supposed to do, they still try to fuck us

They mislabel things and hope you don’t notice at checkout. We were picking up a few things a few weekends ago and I saw that the kind of cheerios I like was on sale for $1.99 with the digital coupon. Super — scan the code, go to the app, clip the coupon, grab 3 boxes, carryon.

We go to checkout at the self scan and it rings up for $5.29 per box. Call over the cashier and he asks if we are sure — I tell him yes and that I can see the endcap with the cereal and the price tag. Send my wife over to get a photo and she brings it back. He overrides the price and I get them for $1.99

I’m annoyed by this and get home to look at the coupon. Oh, it’s only for select General Mills cereals and this type of Cheerios wasn’t one of them. These boxes of cereal were on an end cap and the sale label was directly on the shelf these cheerios were sitting on. It was not a case of the label being in a big shelf full of different kinds of General Mills cereal. So either they made a mistake or they intentionally mislabeled it. At this point, they don’t get the benefit of the doubt anymore.

I check every damn price when I checkout and then confirm afterwards on the receipt since the discounts don’t show up when you scan the product but only after you have hit the "pay now" button. And most of the discounts apply at the same time so you don't have a chance to see them on the screen.

How many people get ripped off and never even notice?

I’d never do it, but at this point, I don’t blame people for stealing from these companies. They’re stealing from us constantly, so fuck them.

And don't even get me started on self-checkout. I don't mind using it for a handful of items, but with the shift to now everybody has to use it whether they have a handful of things or an entire cartful? Fuck that. The people at the registers are so much faster at scanning a cartful -- now it takes me longer to scan things plus there is no space to put the scanned groceries so it's a constant juggling act of moving stuff in and out of the cart. It's no wonder people miss scanning things (on purpose or on accident) there. They've made their bed here, they get to sleep in it. Of course, they'll just raise their prices to cover the shrinkage, so it's just honest people that end up paying for the cheats. Just like everywhere else.

I'll stick with Aldi for most products. They may have made the shift to self-scan, too, but at least you don't have to play this bullshit game of carrying a discount card, downloading an app that steals your data, and then still having to go into the app to clip coupons just to get the sale price.

I'm reading the Grapes of Wrath right now and its astonishing just how many of the 85-year old themes about evil corporations still apply. Fuck them all.

Don't get me started on Aldi (I never actually shop there, it just seemed like the right thing to say at the time)

Grocery stores are becoming a shit show. There's a real competence crisis and between night crew, scan coordinators and promoting unqualified people due to there not being anyone else it's going down fast. I try to go to Aldi too whenever I can but the bad thing about them is they're not always fully stocked and you can't count on them having that one thing that you're stopping off for. We have Fry's here in AZ which is owned by Kroger. It just depends on which store you go to, There's three near me, one is really nice and the other two are crackhead stores. Safeway has really gone down hill. I try to avoid Walmart but sometimes you just have to run in there for a few things. The one by me is almost all self check out now.

The worst part is half of their employees pushing around huge carts for people shopping at home for delivery or pick-up.

All of those people can GTH.

That too. I've heard whispers that the format that you and I have always known will be going away and shopping will soon become ordering online and either paying for delivery or picking up your order curbside. This is because of shrink and lower labor cost.

Our Aldi is pretty good. Almost all of the staples are always there, but we do usually follow a trip it with a quick stop at Kroger for the more specific items and handful of things I'm brand-specific on.

Never ever Walmart. I've been in the Walmart 2 miles from my house I think 3 times in the 15+years we've lived here. Once to use a gift certificate. Once to pickup an online order for a product only Walmart had. And once to look for very specific kitchen gadget. It's been misery every time. Parking lot is insane, people are extra-Walmarty in my town, and the shelves have been in shambles. No chance I'd ever do my regular shop there.

Seems like no matter which Walmart you go to, no matter the neighbor, you you the most ghetto people there every time. They also seem to hire the bottom of the barrel prospects and the customer service is shit.
