Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

In 2017, Saquon Barkley failed to rush for 100 yards in 8 of his final 12 regular season games at Penn State.
- He averaged under 61 ypg in those 8.

In 2016, he also failed to rush for 100 yds in 8 of 12 regular season games.
- Against Sparty, he ran 12 times for 14 yards. 1.2 ypc
- My personal favorite, two weeks before that, 33 rushes for 58 yds vs Indiana. 1.8 ypc!

And this proves what?

In the meantime, he did this:
*2015 Penn State Big Ten 182 1076 5.9
*2016 Penn State Big Ten 272 1496 5.5
*2017 Penn State Big Ten 217 1271 5.9
Career Penn State 671 3843

V Ohio State 2015 26 for 194
2016 12 for 99
2017 21 for 44 + 97 yard Kick off return
To rush for 3843 yards over three years takes some talent and at least a decent offensive line blocking for you.

I think it proves his line couldn't do enough for him in games that mattered.....and he must've accumulated stats the Michigan way. That and he's always been a home run guy.....so rushing for 200 in a game looks like the line is good, until you see he had runs of 78 and 94 and then a whole bunch of nothing.
That reminds me of the Barry Sanders stat lines from back in the day. I always felt bad for him, and resented Emmitt Smith for that reason

I never had any feelings one way or another about backs who had good offensive lines, but I believe that Barry Sanders was the greatest back of all time. Some of his best runs were spectacular efforts where he would juke 2 tackles and break 2 more before being overwhelmed for a 0-2 yard gain. I think most of us are probably aware that Chris Spielman calls Barry the GOAT; though his propensity for having his teammates' backs is practically legendary, it's still worth noting.

One thing is absolutely certain. Barry was far better than any back that ever came out of Crappy Valley.

Complaining about a holding non-call against *ichigan. Some whining posts, then a guy jumps all in, sarcastically, I'm assuming, and says Penn State should have won the game. A couple of guys also assume the one post was sarcastic, but they go with the "It was a huge momentum change!" argument.

No one said that. But it is a clear no call on a huge momentum changer at a very critical juncture. That's how influence is done. Then call something to "even it out" at a time when it doesn't really matter.

I don't think anyone said any of those things.

But it certainly doesn't help when holding calls are missed. Maybe there were penalties missed on PSU's scoring plays/big plays. Feel free to point them out if you noticed them.

Ha - then one guy says there might have been a non-call on a Penn State long play. Another guy doesn't attack the idea (he finds it unlikely, though), but he makes sure he attacks the guy, anyway.

I heard there was a hold on Clifford’s long run but haven’t had the chance to see it since I still don’t have cable. Is this true?
The game was on Fox. You didn't need cable, genius.

Feel free to provide a video clip (you obviously have the internet) of the hold and we'll take an honest look. It is certainly possible, but there was no one near Clifford for the first 40 yards of his run so that seems unlikely.
I’m using my phone because I don’t have internet at home. Why you ask? Because I lost everything (my cars and everything thing in my house from flooding) in hurricane Ian genius.

Someone at work mentioned it to me so I was wondering. I only saw bitching about a missed hold on Michigan so wondered if it was true if PSU actually had a missed hold on a long run.

Now continue on with educating us all about the game of football, genius
I'm glad you acknowledge I am a genius.

If you can post on this message board, you can see video highlights on your phone too.

A couple of guys respond that it wasn't holding (surprise, surprise!). One guy even says that it should have been defensive holding.

Imagine if he had been particularly fond of playing football. Sanders was the best Payton and Brown... Sayers, maybe.
On the other hand Earl Campbell was a different animal.

Might be an interesting study, best RB of any particular year... decade. .. whatever arbitrary time.

The best will be subjective depending on the decade. Earl Campbell was great, but would you put him above Franco Harris or OJ? Barry Sanders was great, but some would argue for Emmitt Smith.
And then would you use NFL as your barometer or the NFL? Because that's an entirely different conversation. Because then you have a large number of guys who had stellar CFB careers, but flamed out in the NFL or their NFL careers just didn't match their CFB greatness(i.e. Archie Griffin, Ron Dayne, Reggie Bush, Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Billy Sims, Mike Rozier and Ricky Williams)

It's always difficult to determine the best of all time at any position.
Is it a lifetime achievement award or a dominance award?

But at his peak, one game you must win, I take Earl.

Sorry I’m taking JIM BROWN.
This. For you youngsters, watch the videos. Nobody had the same combination of speed and power. He had this one move where he acted like he was running out of bounds and he would stop on a dime, spin, and tip toe backwards down the sideline. The defensive players talked about how much it hurt to tackle him. If he played 4 more years nobody would have ever caught his yardage numbers.
