Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Oh, I wasn't saying it's normal.... but, there seem to be those in the PedSta... OK, here, I actually have to say Penn State to avoid confusion in context... community who seem to think that behavior was normal. I don't personally find it normal at all.

Oh, I was with you. I was thinking Ancient Greece? Not too many showers. I could go on, but, it probably isn't the appropriate thread.

I'm curious. We all know homerism is a thing. If this type of scandal were to happen at Ohio State, or to be more fair, say Minnesota, do you think their fans would react the same way as so many Penn State fans? Or is Penn State just really a cult?

See my post a page or so back. These "fanatics" actually see today as a vindication of what they've said all along-that there was an intentional rush to judgement that spares the top admins at PSU and has Paterno fall on the sword. Sounds like a cult.

I remember years ago @NFBuck used to show up daily with a post stating "cults, man". I used to get tired of it and think he was just being dramatic for effect. It took me years to realize what he was saying, but these true believers really DO see things through a different lense.

I believe folks on this board have often invoked the notion of Occam's razor, in that if there are multiple explanations, the simpler (logical) one is better. Well, for these true believers, the "facts" are different in that they include one fact that no one else considers as fact. They believe that Paterno's moral compass was unwavering. So, if you KNOW that Paterno COULDN'T make such a decision, then the "logical" conclusion is that he has been framed. So they have approached from a completely different perspective, and so their Razor leads to the statement that admins covered their hide and let Paterno take the fall, that's the only reasonable explanation for why PSU agreed to a "quick" resolution and payouts to victims on this. There's no room for the simple possibility that Paterno was capable of something particularly wrong. Kinda messed up. ...and yeah, sounds like a cult to me. All you have to do is recognize that Paterno might not have had the strongest moral compass and might be motivated by more than honor and you immediately see the obvious truth that he made some huge compromises and had an ego that might require such "sacrifices".

Cults, man.

From almost the moment the scandal broke, the Pedsters have argued that grown men showering with young boys was a completely normal occurrence back then. What usually follows when the discussion comes up on BWI is a series of posters claiming it was a perfectly normal thing to do at the YMCA back in the 1970s and 1980s.

Also normal at the YMCA in the 1970s and 1980s (NTTAWWT):

Okay, cult.

I am huge on tangents, so work with me. . .

When I lived in Boston the YMCA was the only place with racquetball, so we played there. So many naked men wandering around. The city mostly played squash.

In NYC I had to join the New York Health and Racquet club, or something like that. It was the only way to play tournaments against people that didn't suck. Anyway, one time in the locker room a guy had a video camera for some reason and was filming stuff. All kinds of creepy. . .

As others have said. Real, actual, honest to a passing comet cult.

As far as other fan bases reaction, I can only speak for Ohio State fans, one in particular and my short answer is that if a coach at OSU were caught molesting children and others were culpable in covering it up in the name of football I would want the death penalty for the program. No bullshit. Just shut it down because it's gotten too far out of control.

I would also say that the coach(s) involved, whether it be a Hayes, Bruce, Tressel or Meyer is a fucking dead man to me and if I were given a chance to make that literal I would seriously consider it.
