Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I would also say that the coach(s) involved, whether it be a Hayes, Bruce, Tressel or Meyer is a fucking dead man to me and if I were given a chance to make that literal I would seriously consider it.

And if it was Coop?

I'm curious. We all know homerism is a thing. If this type of scandal were to happen at Ohio State, or to be more fair, say Minnesota, do you think their fans would react the same way as so many Penn State fans? Or is Penn State just really a cult?
I can only speak for myself (though I'm sure many here agree), but if something like this happened at Ohio State...fuck the football program. Shut it down. And I don't care if he won 10 national titles, fuck the coach that let it happen and let him rot in hell.

Going back to something I posted as pure speculation earlier in this thread, the only thing I can believe is that Pedterno was a child molester too. Taking care of his child molesting buddy. As I said, then, I have no evidence (EVIDENTS!!) for this assertion, it's just the only thing that makes a lick of sense to me.

It's not an irrational conclusion to reach. Although, you'd think by now that at least someone he'd molested would have come forward. An alternate explanation I have no trouble believing is that JoePed was possessed of such a colossal ego, and so self-centered as to be wholly indifferent to anyone's needs but his own--i.e., corrupt to the point of qualifying as a sociopath--that he chose his career over the insignificant lives of children. He may have just been that cold-blooded--that destroying the futures of kids was a small price to pay for maintaining his image and pursuing the high holy 409.

Conspiracy-minded as I am, though, I absolutely believe there is a whole coven of pedophiles who were being served through Second Mile. And, not a bunch of grubby old guys in stained trench coats lurking in alleyways. Huh uh. People whose names would be recognized. Based on how lax much legislation is, how often convicted pedophiles are released to rape and often kill more victims, I would not be remotely surprised if many of our judges, DA's, and congressmen are in the club. Certainly, such accusations are out there, albeit without evidence other than the words of those who claim to be survivors. But of course, with all the influence that comes with wealth, power, and prestige, it wouldn't be that hard to conceal your perversions.

Remember how fast after the incident they tore that building down that housed the infamous showers?

(Tin foil hat firmly on now):

Did Joepa like to watch? Maybe a spot was found behind the shower walls ala Porky's?

Ugh, gives me the willies even suggesting such things, but..............
Grand Experiment.
No Names on the Jerseys.
Success with Honor.
wink, wink. nudge, nudge.

"Honest to God it wouldn't surprise me in the least if a certain few board members head of a subcommittee felt public perception was slipping away from Joe and towards the BOT and told someone to accuse Jerry of the most vile thing you can think of and that you told Joe and other coaches and we will make sure you get paid since we are in charge of handing out the $$$$... in other words we need to keep the narrative focused on Jerry and Joe... "

They want to believe the school would try to ruin its entire reputation to make Joe look bad?

Well, actually the KNOW Paterno is incapable of vile behavior, so they must assume that someone is framing him to hide their own vile behavior. That's how people think about their leader when they worship him. It's awful and I want to hate them for it, but I'm trying to come around to pitying them.

Do you pity ISIS? or scUM fans?

Then don't waste any tears on these sick fucks.

I don't think Joe was a pedo. I think he had a narcissistic personality that probably crossed over into a messiah complex as he aged. He truly believed that he was this saintly figure sent to save college football from the Switzers and Sherrills of the world and that nothing was more important than that, certainly not some loser, troubled kids. Throw in the fact that he only and finally won a couple of NCs on the backs of Jerry's defense, and I believe he made a conscious decision to silence the kids and cover for jerry in the service of what his sick mind saw as the greater good: the whole grand experiment, success with honor myth.

In a sense, this is almost less forgivable....that he was a cold-blooded sociopath in covering for Jerry rather than a sick in the head pedo driven by whatever demons they're driven by.

^ This. Absolutely this. Someone may have a repulsive compulsion, but it is that: a compulsion. That may qualify as insanity.
But a self-serving ego that doesn't care what price is paid as long as their goals are met: That's closer to the definition of pure evil.

I can certainly see that angle. I guess I'm fine believing that Pedterno was a cold-blooded sociopath since that's the only other place this shit seems to point.

The Sporting News has gone scorched Earth on PSU over the Joesus statue and the PSU culture. The linked article is fabulous and titled "No Joe Paterno Statue. Ever. So stop complaining." :slappy:

http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-fo...tim-jerry-sandusky/1r9g608kzgt9h1u5bj93xm2sct

Among the excerpts from the article:

"Is it possible to re-erect the Joe Paterno statue in its former place on Penn State’s campus ... just so it can be pulled down again?

No. It just needs to stay down, forever. Putting it back up should never have been considered.

This week, the very notion should be driven from everyone’s minds. With what we have learned, no way it can even be discussed, no matter who wants to discuss it or how loudly.

No, no, no.

Unless it’s to make the point, once and for all, of how much it needs to be taken down and discarded forever, along with the delusions that university, that program and that coach created and nurtured for so long. If possible, the entire culture of a coach on a college campus being elevated to a deity has got to go in the trash, as well.

Yank that culture down, and never build it up again."
