Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I don't think Joe was a pedo. I think he had a narcissistic personality that probably crossed over into a messiah complex as he aged. He truly believed that he was this saintly figure sent to save college football from the Switzers and Sherrills of the world and that nothing was more important than that, certainly not some loser, troubled kids. Throw in the fact that he only and finally won a couple of NCs on the backs of Jerry's defense, and I believe he made a conscious decision to silence the kids and cover for jerry in the service of what his sick mind saw as the greater good: the whole grand experiment, success with honor myth.

In a sense, this is almost less forgivable....that he was a cold-blooded sociopath in covering for Jerry rather than a sick in the head pedo driven by whatever demons they're driven by.

Agree. There is zero evidence Joe was a pedo. I think, as an old-style Italian Catholic (all 4 of my grandparents from Italy, so I'm basing this entire 100% guesswork speculation on knowing that world), he was used to burying his head in the sand on all matters regarding sexuality. He was also used to "putting family first/taking care of things inside the family" and certainly wouldn't have trusted authorities like police and prosecutors.

As years went by and he watched the authorities do nothing even after complaints by others, he must have felt justified in his methods. Making a fuss over Sandusky's actions would have brought a lot of bad publicity on their heads, and for what?

I think, in the end, he was genuinely bewildered that anyone expected him to put the children of strangers ahead of "his family." He just didn't get it - he never did, not really.

Of course, this was an enormous moral failing, a willful blindness for which there is no excuse.

I've always heard Italians tend to be very protective of their Families.

The New York Daily News eviscerated the Paterno "apologists" and likens them to those who believe President Obama was born in Kenya or that President Bush was behind 9/11. The articled is titled "Joe Paterno apologists are blind to reality, unwilling to face facts about ex-Penn St. coach."

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/c...e=twitter.com&utm_campaign=NYDNSports+Twitter

A couple excepts from the article:

"Truthers are a group of unbearable conspiracy theorists who flatly dismiss the 9/11 terrorist attacks were carried out by Al Qaeda. They say it was an inside job, concocted by the American government on its own people.

Birthers are another group that religiously clings to the idea that Barack Obama was not born an American citizen and therefore should never have been eligible to run for president.

Along the same lines as these controversial factions, which reject any evidence against their strong beliefs as being out of hand and flat-out false, is the group that covers their ears and pounds their feet denouncing any and all ideas that former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno knew Jerry Sandusky was up to no good."

The article ends this way:

"The difference between Paterno and those who continue to blindly defend him, is that he understood that. He admitted it. Instead, just like Truthers and Birthers, the Paterno apologists will never even consider the alternative.

And that’s what makes them so unbearable."

Cult media whore John Ziegler now claims he is giving up the fight for "truth" because the mainstream media is so invested in their narrative that the "truth" will never get out. Ziegler has threatened to quit before, and it could very well just be another ploy to make money off the stupid. But the BWI reaction is predictable. Now, the "truth" will never get out and the Board of Trustees will continue to lie about the saintly old man who built a library.

Ziegler also makes the claim that Sandusky is being tortured in prison and "Unless something dramatically changes fast, [Sandusky] won't be around next year."

Even for Ziegler, trying to solicit sympathy for a pedophile having a rough time of things in prison seems a bit out there. My favorite posters in the thread are the ones who are ready to give up on Penn St. because of how corrupt the BoT is and what they did to poor Joe.

Ziegler has put forth that JS is innocent for some time, so it's not surprising for him to act like he is Solzhenytae...eh, fuck it, the imprisoned Russian guy

so... just throwing this out there as another side of this whole deal that im not certain anyone has touched on yet. if you have already done so my apologies, its a long thread :p.

mike mcqueary was hired in 2000 as a janitor i believe. in 2001 he "allegedly/reportedly" (victims or whatever you want to call them n such) informed first his parents and then his superiors that he saw sandusky doing some form of naughties with a kid in the shower. the following morning he contacted paterno directly over the phone.

according to mcqueary this is a significant part of the story:
“At the time, we had a couple of job openings on the staff."

the conversation apparently started a little like this:
mcqueary: I said, ‘Coach Paterno, it’s Mike McQueary. Can I come over to talk?’
paterno: ‘No, I’m not giving you a job.’

in 2004 mcqueary is named the wr coach.

to my knowledge, which is admittedly depending solely on a wiki page, mcqueary was literally a janitor from 2000 to 2004. which is when he was literally promoted from janitor directly to wr coach. so in 3 years he went from cleaning toilets and whose pure name alone prompted the response of, "no, im not giving you a job" to full fledged position coach? no staff work under an actual position coach? no working with the s&c program? no going to starbucks to pick up paterno's favorite coffee for a couple weeks? just straight mopping floors and im NOT hiring you straight to position coach and a major d1 school?

its not that i don't think a person could go from janitor to position coach directly mind you. its that i find it all but impossible that a janitor whose voice alone on a phone call would immediately illicit the response of "im not hiring you" could go from janitor to position coach in less than 3 years...

im not sure i believe anyone said behind closed doors in dark rooms, "keep this to yourself and ill make you a coach". but i have a hard time writing this off as complete coincidence as well. my suspicion is this hope/expectation of a job, while not promised or even spoken aloud, colored the actions of at least two individuals who willingly looked the other way for their own personal gain.

He was never a janitor. I'm not sure where you got that. It has been brought up before, though. I'm with you...I doubt they flat out said keep this quiet and we'll give you a job. But I don't think it wasn't in their minds when it was time to see who gets kept on and who doesn't.

Update from Bethany Beach, btw. There's one group with a double tailgate tent set up. They have ladder ball going. They have a bull horn. They have a need to update the entire beach on what the score is after each throw. They have a flag flying to let everybody know who they are fans of. Because the world revolves around them.

You'll never guess who they're fans of.

There was something about a janitor reporting seeing a Sandusky incident. The person may have already been dead/suffering from dementia by the time the scandal first broke. Sounds like that has merged with the McQueary story.
