Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

That the NCAA was afraid to let this go to court amazes me. Was it a case of being unable to move the venue out of Happy Valley, or just afraid of how a jury might turn?

That may be, but the standard in a defamation case makes it extremely difficult for a plaintiff to prevail.
I think you will see Freeh, the school and the NCAA (and maybe the B1G) issue a formal Pedterno apology statement long before it ever gets to court. That has nothing to do with the cult or the Pedterno faction being right and everything to do with those other folks caving in and not wanting to let this become a financial burden. It's the path of least resistance and that will be seen as a huge victory.

Hasn't the BOT already gone "cultist"?
Cult political pressure will make appointing non-cult members to the BOT difficult
I think we'll have to just enjoy the insanity a little longer..

One of Freeh's recommendations was to cut the number of BOT appointees to half of the current number. That would tip the balance of power to the cult. Then you figure Tom Wolf appoints people that are at least neutral (as opposed to the Corbett appointees who are not at all Pedterno loyalists). You are then looking at a top 50 multibillion dollar university being run by people like Lord and Lubrano with current president Barron being a powerless tool of the BOT. As ORD said, and regardless of whatever research value they bring with their brand, they would need to be removed from the B1G at that point.

What sweet irony, however, it would be if Penn State - as an academic institution - is basically brought to its knees as an academic institution because of football cultists. Frankly, I am hoping the cult does take over the board. None of those nitwits can see - much less do they care - about any relevant issues to the university save for how Dear Leader should be viewed. The BOT should be in the business of ... you know... running a university rather than making sure the football program's zombie icon is held in the proper reverence.

Ok, 1085 pages later I still don't understand their stance. Could someone answer these for me?:

- Did child molestation happen in PSU football venues or not?
- Did the head football coach and any inkling or was told of said molestation?
- Assuming "yes" or the above, what tangible steps were taken to ensure the molestations would stop and the parties at fault held accountable?

They failed ask the major question "do children matter when it comes to Penn State football?"

1. They change their position on this depending on how it works. Sometimes it happened but Jerry was so brilliant nobody had a clue, sometimes you get "look at the size of his nose", "no blood no rape", etc.
2. Again the story changes depending on how they want to spin it that day. Some days JoePa knew and followed the letter of the law. Some days McQueary is lying.
3. They'd point to that NCAA guidance thing and claim he not only did everything expected, but that Joe would've been breaking the law himself if he had gone to the police.

  • YES. Sandusky was found guilty on three of the four counts relating to victim #2 in the shower. The one he was acquitted on was specifically rape (i.e. penetration) since McQueary was unclear on this and the victim didn't testify, there was reasonable doubt
  • YES. It's clear now that JoePed knew about the 1998 investigation and was clearly informed by McQueary that McQueary had witnessed Sandusky doing "something of a sexual nature" after hearing "rhythmic slapping sounds" in the shower
  • NONE. No police or children's agencies were ever notified. Gary Schultz was a VP of Finance under whom somewhere on an organizational flow chart was a box that said university police department. He, however, was not the "head of the police department" and has never in his life been a licensed law enforcement officer. Spanier was seemingly on the verge of contacting children's services until Curley informed him that "after speaking with coach" handling it internally would be "the humane thing to do." Sandusky maintained his access to PSU facilities and season tickets. He held a football camp for 4th to 9th graders on PSU's campus as late as 2009 and was taking children to PSU bowl games right up until the year before the scandal broke.

That's it in a nutshell, and all the cult echo-chamber shit can't whitewash a bit of it.

All that I know. What I want to know is how in hell they rationalize any of it? I don't mean theoretically, I mean how do they answer these charges? Seriously
Simple, they have their own reality where none of it happened. Kinda like how in my world the last 59:45 of the 2006 title game never happened. But instead of denying a football game loss they're denying horrific crimes against children.
