Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

With all due respect, I think you're way overselling that, Scott. They weren't getting a whole lot of four-star recruits lately anyway. And some of the three-star recruits are simply going to be replaced by two-star recruits. When you get into that, you're looking at the ability of a staff to coach them up.

Except they haven't been and the brand new coaching staff isn't a proven commodity by any stretch of the imagination.

With all due respect, a team of more talented players will beat a team of coached-up 2-stars. PSU will drag along the bottom of the BIG for years, which, now that I'm thinking about it, will be more fun for me than having them just not participate for a year.

In a strange twist, now Penn State's last win had Mike McQueary at QB.

I seriously thought the NCAA would only drop the hammer on Penn State after _all_ the investigations were complete (following the USC model if you will). Shocked that they have, for once, acted so speedily.

As for the B1G Presser (Delaney) anyone want to bet that will now simply consist of "Penn State is banned from participating in the championship conference game for XX years" - perhaps to be tacked onto the NCAA's bowl ban?

ESPN3 coverage on the internet has been surprisingly decent as far as I'm concerned. I haven't heard the term "slippery slope" once.

Heard it alot last night as things began to leak and on Sportscenter right before press conference (and now on Colin in a discussion with Fowler, though the exact phrase hasn't been used it's what they're talking about)

I still have the feeling that Corbett is pulling the strings behind the scenes. It is hard to fathom that Erickson and the BOT are this incompetent and would be so willing to give away the store so easily. Corbett and PSU have been at odds for years over funding, and I'm wondering if Corbett spelled out that PSU had better concede to extreme punishment or he would yank their funding completely. Corbett would be doing this, of course, to deflect blame.

are you saying there won't be transfers? That was my main point. Top level teams may not be lining up for Penn State recruits, but you can bet there a boatload of midlevel teams lining up to recruit Penn State's roster. Right now Cincinnati or Virginia or Pitt or whomever looks a lot better to a Penn State Freshman than playing for 4 years and never getting to go to a bowl game. With the transfers and normal attrition they will have a very low number of scholarships. It's not replacing the 3 stars with 2 stars, it's replacing the 3 stars with no one.
