I don't thin anyone did. I was taking to friends and we were joking about them taking wins away. Did not really thin they would do it.

It's not going to be that easy for a lot of current players to transfer before this season. Most teams are already at their scholarship limits for this season. Sure, the SEC guys might find a couple more medical hardships to create a spot or two. But most PedState players are simply not good enough for another team to go to that much trouble. Best opportunity for nearly all current players will probably be to treat this season as tryouts for the rest of their career.

For that reason I believe the NCAA should extend the transfer without penalty exception to extend into next spring.

It's glaringly obvious that the culture at PSU is still rotten from a vocal portion of the BOT on down. My concern is that these penalties are harsh enough to let PSU believe they've been punished sufficiently, so all they have to do is wait it out and bask in their eventual redemption. In 2015, it won't be, "Our school has changed for the better and that couldn't happen now," it will be, "We've had our punishment so drop it." I don't like it.

Not anywhere near my definition of unprecedented, nor close to how to really impact that culture via punitive and corrective measures.

Vacating wins from 1998 - 2011 is a good first step. That deals a big blow to their culture since Pedterno is no longer at the top of the winningest list.

The bowl ban should have been for 8 or maybe 10 years. The reduced schollies should have also been for 8 or maybe 10 years. That would be unprecedented and it would really help change the culture. An 8-10 year time frame would effectively make State Penn irrelevant for an entire generation. Maybe then, a true, honest attempt at cultural change could take hold.

IMO Emmert was brilliant. It is unfortunate that there are few sports writers - particularly at ESPN - who understood all of what he was saying. Thus we will continue to hear questions about why the NCAA is not involved in "other criminal cases", suggestions that they have exceeded their role and comparisons to other cases that will be argued as somehow comparable.

I came away with no unanswered questions.

ESPN has been - not shockingly - pretty confused about the whole thing, focusing mostly on a "slippery slope" (their often-used words) of the NCAA being able to enforce sanctions on the Peds...

They will be lucky to meet the 65 limit. On top of all the seniors, there will be tons of transfers. They could easily lose 40 or more by the end of the year, and can only replace them with 15. They could be around 50 for the next few years and cap out around 60 in the last year (+ any redshirt freshman from this year, but I doubt many of them will stick around). They could even end up in the 40's in year 2. Most of the transfers will be Freshman and Sophomores. They could literally lose 70 in the next couple of years and only replace them with 30.

With all due respect, I think you're way overselling that, Scott. They weren't getting a whole lot of four-star recruits lately anyway. And some of the three-star recruits are simply going to be replaced by two-star recruits. When you get into that, you're looking at the ability of a staff to coach them up.
