Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Think of it this way, Ohio State was limited last year and still had what 75 scholarship players on the roster for most of the year?? And at the end of the year they were very thin on the o-line and the defensive backfield anyway.

They will screw up again and this will be a moot point, but the NCAA running their athletic department is going to be a huge issue for them. I don't think they know how to run a clean program.

Listening to SiriusXM now,

A Ped State Grad (class of 76) just called in. He thought the vacating of wins was a bit much (of course), but did say that he thought that the NCAA should have required Ped State to fire the BOT or not be able to compete in the NCAA.

Heres a question no one is answering, will Penn State have enough players to field a team this year? I expect the transfers to be LARGE

I'm not so sure. Their roster is not stocked with NFL caliber talent. A kid with average talent might have a tough time moving this late in the calendar. If you are a senior or even a junior you are so much part of the culture that it could be tough to "abandon" the team at its hour of need. This is not USC - many of these kids really believe in the Penn State way (which is of course part of the problem).

It is also not clear when the 65 limit kicks in. I would assume they need some transfers if that is to be effective this season.

On the other hand, if I am O'Brien I don't want to coach any kid who is dumb enough to stick it out with this year's class.

In any case we now play Indiana twice per season.

They will be lucky to meet the 65 limit. On top of all the seniors, there will be tons of transfers. They could easily lose 40 or more by the end of the year, and can only replace them with 15. They could be around 50 for the next few years and cap out around 60 in the last year (+ any redshirt freshman from this year, but I doubt many of them will stick around). They could even end up in the 40's in year 2. Most of the transfers will be Freshman and Sophomores. They could literally lose 70 in the next couple of years and only replace them with 30.

I don't see a bunch of transfers happening. We're FIVE WEEKS from the start of the season. I just don't see the mass transfers that the media is throwing out there, unless a school makes it really attractive to uproot and go elsewhere in such short notice.

That being said, I await to see what players leave. They will forever be labeled Benedict Arnolds for leaving the cult.

We'll have to wait and see about the transfers, but I tend to agree with Alex.

Southern Cal had very few transfers after their sanctions, and they've posted a 28-7 record with similar scholarship reductions.
