Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Not that I care - I really don't - I find it funny - but why do Penn State fans hate Ohio State so much?

Of all the programs out there he chose an opportunity with OSU. I don't know for sure but would expect that several other teams made contact with him at the same time. So Nashville, in your example, not only did the ex wife marry some other dude but compounded it by marrying your hated next door neighbor.

There is always acrimony during coaching changes. I remember well how you treated Bruce after Woody Hayes went off the rails. You guys have built a very strong team. You also have had your share of scandal, NCAA punishment. Mr. Gee is a complete ass. The result is that OSU has sold out to win games. That is why you have a larger than usual criminal element on your teams. Urban doesn't worry much about the quality of the person, if they are fast enough, like most SEC schools. That is all ok. It makes it more exciting when we beat you guys.
The one thing that really stood out for me based on my visits to Columbus is that OSU fans are the largest group of totally ignorant, stupid and abusive people. It is no surprise to me that in all of my many years as a season ticket holder, every game since 1982, there have only two people dragged out of Beaver Stadium and they were both drunken ignorant OSU fans.
It also intrigued me that the fans who visited State College from other BIG schools also felt the same way about OSU fans. I was really surprised when the fans from Akron, Toledo, BG, Kent State also hate you people. It must be something about being in Ohio. My mind goes to the guy in hotel bar I met while on a project at Battel that said the way Ohioans get rid of the pets is to drop them off in the interstate median. That was before I ever visited for an OSU game and then it all made sense.
I've been watching PSU v OSU games since 1969 and they all have been interesting. One of the best is Archie's senior season game. He made a great catch, totally horizontal to the ground for the winning score in a truly well played game. My feelings have nothing to do with football.
This isn't likely to bother you all, that every other fan base hates you and you are more likely to be proud of it. Which makes my case. While I am glad one BIG team is competing for the Nat'l Championship and I hope for more of our teams to get better and I think most people feel that way. Just not you guys, nobody likes you or want you to succeed. You all should be so proud. When LJsr realized this he will be gone. I give him one year. He has too much class for you.

There were several OSU fans in sports bar and they were the most pompous, arrogant, obnoxious assholes you could ever imagine. I decided to take an informal survey of people.....Vegas-well represented by fans from all over the country, and , without a doubt, just about every fan base across the country unanimously considered OSU fans the biggest bunch of ass clowns in the NCAA.
Somewhere (probably on this board) someone posted a list of most hated NCAA teams, and all of the teams have had recent success. Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, LSU, USC - those types of teams. Seemed like a good list to be on. Is that all it is? Or is it something else? Does it stem from Cooper having his team score late touchdowns after Adam Talifario (spelling?) got hurt? Maybe from Ohio State winning 6 straight Big Ten championships, including the 2 ties they had with Penn State? Maybe from Pryor choosing Ohio State over Penn State? Spence? Bosa? From the fact that, try as they might, Ohio State will never consider Penn State a rival? Or are they just crazy nuts?

I blame it on Tug Speedwell.

By the way, they aren't the only fanbase that considers Buckeye fans to be the biggest assholes in the sports bar. That point of view has been shared by about half the fans of other teams I've spoken to over the years; the other group that's universally reviled is Wolverine fans. I've been told that Buckeye fans are the worst-behaved, but that nobody is as arrogant without cause as a Michigan fan. TIFWIW.

Particularly one that they both felt morally superior (success with honor or whatever you want to call it) to off the field and fully expected to own on the field.

I'll put it another way, they expected to be Notre Dame and the B1G to be their own stable of service academies with Joe Pa as their Pope and Jer Jer as the Priest.

Put it in that context and then have "Navy" hang 63 on you.

I think our fanbase's reputation for poor behavior is not completely unearned, although it's gotten better the last several years. That being said whatever the reality of the situation, it has no bearing on the pedsters opinions. Their jealous rage and sense of having been cheated out of dominating the conference would be just as irrational if our crowds acted like the University of Chicago.

I felt the 90s were full of jack-wagon Buckeye fans. It may be that I haven't lived in Ohio for 10 years but it seems to have gotten better.

I was gone in the 90s, but when I moved back to Columbus in 2000 and stayed there into 2005 before moving to Chicago, I noticed that the fanbase (and the gameday scene) had taken a huge turn for the worse from what I witnessed in the late 80s. Probably a combination of frustration of the Cooper years, bandwagon fans after 2002 and the zoo environment that the businesses on Lane Avenue had created.

All of the above I think. Plus, as ORD stated, their sense of moral superiority and entitlement is out of this world.
In their minds, it's inconceivable that a bunch of dumb hicks from "Ahia" could possibly get the best of a "world class blueblood east coast university"
Their arrogance truly rivals or exceeds that of the scUMmers.
