Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

FWIW, some other recaps I found don't even mention the supposed discrepancy.
I remember the play and there's no supposed about it. It was a horrendous call. One of the worst calls I've ever seen upon seeing the replay. If we would've had replay then it would've been one of the quickest overturns ever. But the play was only third down. We still would've had the ball 4th and 3 with one more shot to keep the game winning drive going, so there's no guarantees PSU would've pulled it out anyway.

In better bookstores everywhere.

Of course the author has one for about every major school including Ohio State.

All of the games were called unfairly against JoePa. Every last one. He was so good, he was able to overcome the bad officiating 409 times.

Against powerhouses like Pitt (23-7-1), Temple (28-0), West Virginia (25-2), Syracuse (23-4), Maryland (24-0-1), Boston College (16-4), and Rutgers (16-1) no less.

Is it any wonder the old bastard wanted to start a conference with those teams?

For the record, he was 12-11 against Iowa, 9-14 against Ohio State, 6-10 against Michigan, and 6-8 against Wisconsin.

Is it any less wonder that after two decades of dealing with JoePed's house refs that they said "FUCK NO," and the first thing they did when they got to the Big East was to blackball his application.

Guys, guys...... We all know JoePed never broke a single, solitary NCAA rule off the field; it's preposterous to think that he would have allowed his team to break any of the rules while they were on the field. #FACTS #EVIDENTS!!!

I tried to find an article that talks about this but all I could find was something from Bleacher Report.

Two things I found notable, however:

First, I had no clue who the proposed members of Paterno's conference were when I made that list a few posts. I just went down the all time records and picked the teams that Paterno played the most games and had the best records against.

Paterno tried to get Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Temple, Maryland, Syracuse, Rutgers and Boston College to go in on the idea with him, but they ultimately left Paterno and Penn State hanging.

It is absolutely hilarious that the 7 teams he had the best long term records against lined up perfectly with the teams he wanted in his conference.

As an aside: that's also they reason I like to give credit to Penn State for setting an example and blazing the trail for teams like Boise State to come to national prominence. Is any more proof needed that Paterno and Penn State built their success on the backs of pathetic competition than the ongoing fail that has characterized Penn State's time in the Big Ten?

It's no wonder that he wanted to lock those teams in long term.

I also found this part humorous.

The Big East eventually was formed under a similar structure to Paterno’s idea, and Penn State was left out of the mix. When Penn State attempted to join, the conference turned their back on the school largely due to the state of Penn State’s basketball program, a sticking point that was not a hassle when Miami applied for membership a few years later.

Yes, it's almost as if that wasn't the real reason they turned their backs on Paterno.

It's very telling that those coaches, schools and athletic directors who knew Paterno best wanted nothing but to get as far away from him as possible. I'm sure that he thought he was going to run the Big Ten (both on the field and behind the scenes) when he joined, and you saw the anger and bitterness increase as it dawned on the evil old man that neither was going to happen.

Yeah, but the record was that bad only because Jim Delany hates Penn St and invited them specifically so the B1G could keep them under wraps. David Witvoet is personally handed $10K in unmarked bills by Delany out in the parking lot of Beaver Stadium for each call he makes that screws Penn St.

Not only that, but all the B1G officials assigned to their games are alumni of tOSU or TSUN, and they all bet against PSU in the Vegas sports books.
