Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

They sure have embraced that victim mentality, haven't they?

You've got to be kidding. on the video posted, there were three egregious Reply
holds. I have no idea how you could miss them. Mauti's was right in front of the official. You have to assume one of two issues: total and complete incompetence or malfeasance. Take your pick.

Ad that to the phantom "holding" call on Bars on the punt return, the non-call faceguarding on the fake punt...check the tape, with about 1:40 left, your TE, #81 mugs Mauti as Miller gets the corner for a 9 yard gain and a first down. Mauti gets in his face and screams and #81 just laughs.

I know several tOSU players. I'll find out. One of their parents called me after the game, a defensive starter, and told me that she knew that tOSU had been gifted by the refs. I don't expect you to feel that PSU would have won or even been competitive. But that was a horrible one-sided officiated game. And what's worse, it is consistently bad when we play tOSU or Michigan.

I am no conspiracy theorist, but if I were PSU, I'd be on the phone the the ACC, Big 12, Big East, or the fantasy league of choice to the hell out of the B1G.

F...ing corrupt Big Ten Reply
Geez, this is like back to Michigan in the 1990s. Penn State has to beat Ohio State and the f...ing B10 officials. That's too much. This team is too good.

Two possession calls, both very marginal, against Penn State. I have NEVER seen holding called in that situation on the punt.

Not a single significant penalty on Ohio State. They only call them when they're in a decline situation.

This is utterly sickening. I can't believe Penn State has been in this conference for nearly 20 years and they're STILL getting treated like this.

Let's remember this crew. We never want to see this crew again.

Other than losses, here's what could be the effect of calls like this... Reply
Players and recruits may see the futility of trying to beat a system that is stacked against them and will elect to attend a different school. (Open season on bailing for almost another full year.) Fans will find the situation hopeless and (now with STEP) simply decide to stay home. Coaches may see that college football is just a pile of twisted corruption and may opt for the NFL as soon as they can get out.

The proof is on film for all to see. O'brien has to be asking himself what next? Will the storm spawn a tornado that takes out Beaver Stadium?

The refs called me Saturday night so that they could giddily tell me how bad they screwed over State Penn. They told me that they were making up penalties as they went becasue they really wanted to stick it to State Penn. Shhhhhhhhhh! This isn't supposed to get out.

Fucking whiny little bastards. A couple of your defensive players should have been thrown out since they were litterally getting in OSU players faces well after the whistle and trying to instigate shit. Fuck you all. Go to the ACC, please, and take your bitchass fans with you.

Yep - give me ANYONE other than Ped State in the Big Ten and the Big Ten is immediately better in every sense. Ped State is a stain.

The refs didn't fail to punch it in on 1st and goal from inside the five either ... they did, however, give PSU the opportunity to run a 1st and goal play inside the five by extending their drive with a pass interference call in which the WR slammed into Roby who pulled him down.

Spielman's comment was that the WR"did a good job initiating that contact."

I may be mistaken, but isn't it against the rule to "initiate contact" during a pass pattern?

Either way, Ohio State had a drive extended on a perfectly legit penalty and punched it in for a touchdown.

PSU got the same exact benefit (I'll even give them that it was a perfectly legit penalty edit: it was second down so slightly different but the point remains the same because--->) and they failed to score a touchdown from inside the five yard line.

But yes, :sob: they got hosed.

(I'm working my way through the game with an eye out for the impact that the refs are having, if you can't tell.)

Edit: Announcers mentioned that Penn State coaches weren't happy with the officials at the moment after Braxton's amazing run for no apparent reason. :shake: Edit edit: they go back to point out a "hold" after the break which was an amazing block in which Fragel stayed engaged and never gave up on the play which wasn't a freaking hold at all. But, the broadcast went out of their freaking way to point it out and bitch about it. Un-freaking-believable.

Don't show what was one of the best 1-yard touchdown runs you will ever see after the break, point out a phantom holding call. :shake:

And THEN on the ensuing kickoff they bring up the "iffy" holding on the punt. AGAIN. Holy. Hell.

To be "fair," they mention that un-called holding has gone on "on both sides of the ball" although the number of times they have specifically pointed it out is OSU: 3 PSU: 0 at this point which isn't even counting how many times they bring up the punt play.

This is a joke.

Also, the refs didn't give up touchdowns on 4 of 5 drives in the second half (not counting the one in which Ohio State ran out the clock on).

Next day edit:

I'm going to keep adding to this post as I finish watching the game just so I don't waste space.

The announcer guesses that a penalty is a holding against Ohio State when it is in fact a facemask. Nonchalantly says "well I guess I shouldn't guess what the penalty is going to be." Yeah, you wouldn't want to show bias in the telecast.

Specifically complaining about missed holding calls by the ref against a team count- OSU: 4 PSU:0 and it's not even the fourth quarter yet.

The announcers then immediately go into talking about how Ohio State is the most penalized team and PSU is the least in the conference, the implication being that that is impacting the game because OSU has had 3 and PSU has had 6 to this point.

Spielman mentions an uncalled holding about a minute later (1:45:00 in the YouTube replay of the game).

Specific mentions of uncalled holding penalty count- OSU:5 PSU:0

Another drive extended for PSU (they failed to convert on 3rd and 5) on a questionable roughing the passer penalty on Shazier. Announcers shrug it off as usual... not even a hint of a whisper that it might have been a questionable call. Shocking, really.

 Not only do the announcers shrug it off, they prattle on about how it is so important to "protect players" which I guess is as close as they are going to come to admitting that it was a bad call.

Announcers mention that the "timing of penalties against Penn State has been a big issue" which is funny because I do believe the cult is parroting that exact same line in defense of their "Big Ten holds us down with officiating" conspiracy theory.

Announcers too busy waxing poetic about what a great job O'Brien is doing to mention the obvious hold on Nathan Williams at 2:13:00 on third and long. Drive extended.

 They show Meyer screaming "That was holding!" on the sidelines and the announcers still don't mention it. They are STILL talking about O'Brien. :slappy:

More obvious holding on Hankins at 2:15:15. STILL talking about O'Brien and what a great job he's doing in a tough situation.

Pass interference call in the endzone. Announcers congratulate receiver on "earning" the call. Once again, I guess that is as close as they will come to maybe mentioning that a questionable call went against OSU?

Okay, so I'm finally done with this.

I apologize for the long "stream of consciousness" post but the bottom line is that the announcing for that game was truly awful and undoubtedly fed into the crybaby antics from Penn State fans.

By my count, Ohio State had two drives extended by penalties and penalties alone. The first one was questionable but had no impact on the game as Ohio State punted soon after.

The second one was obviously illegal on the punt which led to the Ohio State score. There was nothing controversial about the call but the announcers talked about it being controversial into the second half.

Although it is difficult to tell since PSU was going for it on fourth down so much, their drives were aided by a questionable roughing the passer call on third-and-long which led to a touchdown and a no-call holding on third-and-long which also led to a touchdown in the second half.

The announcers also specifically mentioned they felt Ohio State got away with holding at least five times, mostly on big runs or touchdown runs.

They specifically mentioned PSU "getting away" with holding exactly zero times the entire game although they broadly mentioned both sides getting away with things once.

This was particularly humorous near the end of the game when the cameras clearly showed Meyer screaming about holding on the sideline on a drive extending third and long (which Penn State ultimately scored on, for the record) and the announcers continued to prattle on about O'Brien.

So, two takeaways.

Truly awful, awful announcing.

Penn State fans are the biggest conspiracy theory spouting crybabies in the universe and the announcers did nothing but feed into that the entire game.

Okay, I'm officially done with this now.

I'm going to go ahead and post this here as well, although I don't think the fans quoted above deserve the time.

On another note, it's pretty funny to see them complaining about not getting called for a "face guarding" pass interference penalty. I swear in my entire life of watching football Ohio State is the only team that I have ever seen get called for that. I distinctly remember Donte Whitner got called for it back in the day even though he wasn't within two yards of the player he was guarding and the ball was un-catchable.

So yeah, cry me a river that Ohio State doesn't continue to be the only team in the world that has that penalty called against them even though other teams have obviously come to expect it.
