Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

These guys are just too transparent at times. Here's a perfect display of their thought process. With regards to Spanier's actions today, it all distills down to does this potentially help Dear Leader or hurt Dear Leader. That's what everything comes down to.

It would take a team of experienced cult deprogrammers, a cabin in the Sierras and six months to get them to ever look at what he was and what he did with any kind of objectivity whatsoever.

Re: My concern about today...Reply This is simple ...

BOT/Pres comishes Freeh report
BOT/Pres accepts report as fact
NCAA and Big 10 accept as facts and levy penalty
World coming to realize Freeh Report is a piece of garbage
Spanier about to put a bullet in it ..
BOT exposed for what they are ... incompetent (6.5 million on a set of false conclusions) and need to Cover their A$$e$.

This story is no more complicated than a sick man duped a lot of people for a long time. The culpability lies in the 1998 investigation ... 2001 is immaterial as it is becoming clear that many did not see this as a sexual attack .... there was no cover-up (no evidence, no motive). There were things that could have been done to stop JS but only given what we know now.

BOT and NCAA have made a real mess of this ....

 :slappy:

Deprogramming them is going to be a LOT easier than you think.

Wait until the losses start rolling in. As irrational as they are, actual games will speak a lot more to their psyche than whatever presidents and board members will say.

When they fail to go .500 this year, they're going to start recognizing the cold, hard, truth and reality of what JoePa did. That is, destroy Penn State football for a decade or two (in addition to a lack-luster decade in 00-10)

I don't know. They have been remarkably impervious to a decade of relative mediocrity with a couple of minor flirtations with relevance. Simply downgrading that to sucking with a couple of minor flirtations with mediocrity... Their finally tuned rationalization skills will turn that into a decade of almost-dominance.

something to consider:

the freeh report was not exhaustive because it was not permitted to be so. remember, there are more important investigations that preclude freeh from releasing damning revelations. furthermore, don't think that the ncaa punished psu based on the freeh report alone.

Disagree. Their entire identity was Joe Paterno and the fact that he was the all-time wins leader. That's what they hung their hat on. They will never blame him for anything. Look how they're acting now. They'll continue to blame the ncaa when the losses start piling up. They'll continue to call Louis Freeh a fraud. They'll continue to think that normal human beings "just don't get it". This is their relevance now. Their "struggle". These people are forged from years of inbreeding, and little interaction with the outside world. Nothing is going to change them. They'll turn on Bret O'Bankey, but never Dear Leader.

Penn State ranked 25th in the US by USNWR for CompSci graduate degrees.

Yet Spanier's opinion is that the entire IT Department was stocked with incompetent boobs that couldn't figure out how to run an email server. You know ... 'back in that era ...' all the way back in 1998 when computers were such primitive fucking contraptions.

Would it really surprise you if the Happy Valley IT team was as completely incompetent as every other facet of the school?

You just know that the system admin was Franco Harris or some other former PSU player who majored in lawn maintenance.

Remember that USNWR rankings are based on word of mouth. Joe Pa told someone they had a pretty good adding machine school and it snowballed from there...

From their 247 board......

I think the days of PSU fans having to sweat MAC teams are over even with our sanctions. PSU has much better talent than Ohio except perhaps at QB. I believe the new staff will get the most out of our talent and the first game will be a statement. I could be wrong but I already bet $200 on PSU giving 6.5. I know it's not much but I think it's easy beer money.

don't they realize that Penn State is basically going to be a MAC team in a short time?

This whole saga has two major things going that amaze me more every day.

1) The fact that a school covered up for a sexual predator for years - I mean, what the fuck? There is no logic here. I don't understand why they did it. Getting him out of there not only would have been the right thing to do, but it would have helped kids, the school, etc. Nobody would come out of that looking bad, other than Sandusky. Well, the school's reputation would have been tarnished, but you know what I mean.

and 2) I'm shocked, amazed, etc. by the lengths that people are going to defend a football coach. Sure, he helped the community and did great things for lots of people. BUT HE FUCKING KEPT A PEDOPHILE SHELTERED IN HIS PROGRAM FOR A LONG TIME. GET OVER PATERNO. HE IS SCUM. There's only one kind of person lower on the totem pole than a guy who shelters a pedophile - and that is the pedophile himself.

I'm disgusted at my fellow humans. Ashamed to live on the same planet as some of these PSU fans.

It's amazing to think that someone learning about the abuse and cover-up for the first time would be so intent on excusing it with everything from the greedy victims accusations to claiming Paterno having no clue whatsoever that there is any such thing as sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior around children. Who in their right mind learns about child abuse and decides, willingly, to become a participant in the cover-up after the fact? The rest of the country has an accusatory finger pointed at Penn State because its representatives made excuses for and minimized an extremely serious wrong, and it seems as though half the PSU community has jumped on board with their own excuse-making and minimizing of their own. They are so willing to jump in and get their hands dirty after the fact. It's as though they think if they can only sweep furiously enough, they can put the whole situation back under the rug.

Now, I'm not the most religious man, but it seems as though the cultists have bit-by-bit pretty much constructed a whole messiah-Jesus narrative around JoePed.

You have the outsider preaching his gospels--the Grand Experiment and Success with Honor--to a non-believing, often hostile world. Hated and mocked by those who won't accept his purity.

He is utterly selfless to all around him. Caring more for the anonymous secretary or normal student than for himself. You see that in the constant refrain of, "anyone who knows the slightest bit about Joe knows that he could never let a child be harmed no matter the cost to himself and his program." They have a pinned thread for people to tell their "Joe stories" of his simple humility and love for all around him.

At the end, he is betrayed by those closest to him: Schultz, Curley, Spanier and the Board of Trustees

The frenzied mob follows. BWI often uses the term "media fueled blood lust."

And finally being unjustly hounded to an early grave.

Now you have the Powerful in politics, higher education and media all trying to destroy his legacy...........

but.........the TRUTH and the FACTS will be stronger than anything. The TRUTH will come to those who seek it.
