He knew electronic communications can be recovered while paper can easily be destroyed. Once destroyed, the cult members could ignore every single report and email saying Paterno knew. Without an actual email from Paterno himself the mutants would continue to worship him as deity even though he knowingly allowed small children to be molested (which still baffles me there are people who are not absolutely sicked by that).
10. Following PSU?s controversial 27-25 last-second loss at Michigan in 2005, the Lions? only blemish on an 11-1 season, Paterno was furious that officials put a few seconds back on the clock, possibly allowing Wolverines QB Chad Henne enough time to throw the game-winning TD pass on the final play. According to Posnanski, Paterno told friends he was considering pulling the Lions out of the Big Ten as a result.
Yep, a coach threatening to take unilateral action for his school based on a single game really makes the case for institutional control.JohnDorian;2196268; said:Flounders: 10 fascinating sports facts revealed in Joe Paterno biography
Poor Dear Leader was [censored]ed he wasn't able to use his player's fathers as refs. Kinda upset he didn't pull Penn State out of the Big Ten though.. that would have been the greatest thing he ever did in his life in my eyes.

Maybe the answer is somewhere in the middle - he didn't have notes, because he didn't care about things that would hurt his legacy. Sandusky and his molesting tendencies were beneath him. You think he'd make notes of things that would damage him, his ego, or his legacy?

9. When former PSU President Graham Spanier and then-administrators Tim Curley (athletic director), Gary Schultz (vice president) and Steve Garban (PSU board of trustees chairman) met with Paterno at his home after a 4-7 season in 2004 ? the Lions had finished 3-9 in 2003 ? Spanier at one point informed Paterno that he would recommend to the board of trustees that 2005 should be Paterno?s final season as coach.
According to Posnanski, Paterno put both hands on the kitchen table, looked Spanier in the eye and said, ?You take care of your playground, and I?ll take care of mine.?
