Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I'm old enough to remember playing PSU in the 80's with their questionable officiating. I suspected something nefarious back then and started calling their coach Greasy Joe. They've been making a mockery of CFB for long enough. They needed to be hammered to restore respectability to the game.

The ref who completely missed(?) the call on Nebraska in 1982 was the father of a player on the team. Seriously, I'm not making this [Mark May] up. JoePed had his own personal ref crews when ped aggy was an independent.

JoePed only joined the Big Ten because his dream of an Eastern League was turned down by Pitt, Syracuse and the others. One of the main issues is that JoePed would have kept his personal officiating crews. He also would have controlled the league office, scheduling and instituted an uneven split for football revenue but an even split for basketball revenue. Gee, I wonder why the other schools didn't want to take their place on Massah Joe's plantation. Penn State is a lot like China. The people closest to them and who know them the best absolutely loathe them. That's telling.

Say what you will about Beano Cook, but he absolutely nailed it when he said that JoePed would struggle in the Big Ten when he was forced to deal with independent referees. Then look at the 19 years where he was constantly screaming at officials on the sideline, whining about them in post game press conferences and inferring that they were looking out for the other team. They weren't. They were just trying to be objective, and making mistakes as refs are prone to do. But after nearly 30 years of having the refs in your pocket, he couldn't realize that.

I'm sure if ORD convinced them that Nebraska joining the BIG and their downfall happening within the same year aren't a coincidence you'd get your hate.

It is funny how the B1G didn't give us any cupcakes the first couple of years and handed us PSU to play every year. Now PSU is a tasty cupcake and we will own them for years. I actually know IM_Lion89, I'll see what his take is:biggrin2:

I was never a fan of St. Tom and his running up the score, but I certainly hope that Nebraska or any other team never takes their foot off the gas with these fucktards.

There are shockingly few Penn State alumni in Chicago on whom to get any bearing. I can't remember meeting a single one, and that's the only Big Ten school that I can say that about. I honestly can't remember meeting any in Washington either; although I was only there for less than a year.

I think even the young ones right out of college go straight to the suburbs. I wonder if it's a case that Joestown doesn't prepare them to deal with a large, diverse and chaotic city or the natural inclination of kids who are drawn to Joestown in the first place is going to preclude them ever wanting to live in a city.

I'm in the burbs and I've only seen one PSU ball cap. None at work. They should be required to identify themselves.

Are you intentionally meaning to reinforce the hayseed stereotype?

Not intentionally . I've been fretting over whether something like this could happen at Nebraska and how we would react. I've concluded that for sure, crimes like this could happen (coverup not so likely). Once revealed there would probably be disbelief and denial that it was well known or a cover up happened. I am confident that once the equivalent of the Freeh report came out enough outraged and embarrassed farmers with pitch forks would show up in Lincoln and shut the program down. I would be in front. NCAA sanctions would not be needed. Hayseeds might be naive but we are generally moral. Unfortunately we do take things too far sometimes. http://www.nebraskastudies.org/0700...braskastudies.org/0700/stories/0701_0134.html

Unfortunately, they have a lot of alums and fans in NYC, and not all of them are on Staten Island either. On the bright side, they have mostly been quiet since November. Even the member of the Suhey family that I know has not said peep.

They will get quieter still. Right now they are filled with righteous indignation. Next year when they are struggling with .500 and recruiting sucks it just wont be worth it to them anymore.

Other than the die hards on BWI of course. That is like an ant farm with the trolls shaking it up every day or two.

Something close to what happened at Ped State would require the same peculiar mix of iconic coach(there are a few of those), distance/isolation from media and normal cultures, (not so easy), and a clever pedophile coaching his way into a powerful position. A rare mix for sure.

NCAA to Paterno family: Don't bother appealing..

Family lawyer Wick Sollers in a letter sent Friday to the NCAA said the Paternos would like to appeal the "enormous damage" done to Penn State, the community, athletes and the late Hall of Fame coach. He died in January at age 85.
But the NCAA quickly rejected their plan. "The Penn State sanctions are not subject to appeal," spokesman Bob Williams said.

When your dealt a bad hand in poker, you best bet is sometimes a bluff.
if the opening player is a 4bet-or-fold type and if you have position and if your image isn't fos, then i would agree that bluffing can be a solid play. i would also recommend it be a squeeze when 3bet bluffing. the dead money can make it a worthwhile play. however, if the primary raiser has a very wide calling range, bluffing is usually a bad play, especially at the lower limits where players rarely ever go beyond first level thinking. in that case, i would strictly stick to a value range when 3betting.
