Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

October 27 game versus Ohio State set for "whiteout".

Penn State announces theme days for home schedule

August 3rd, 2012

Penn State announced what we who follow minor league baseball closely would call “the promotional schedule” on Friday.
It includes some traditional favorites — Homecoming against Northwestern on Oct. 6 and Senior Day on Nov. 24 against Wisconsin.
The Ohio State game on Oct. 27 will be both a prime time game and a Whiteout, which will likely be treated by Penn State as its bowl game for the season.
There are also a few new traditions that could take off. Sept. 15 against Navy is Military Appreciation Day, and the Sept. 22 game against Temple will be a Blue Out, where donations will be collected for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape.

That's my point. That was in normal times. WTF is the environment going to be like now. I'll be interested to hear the feedback from those who go. I'll also be interested to see how much the general fan/alumni opinion adheres to or differs from the BWI/Audibles line.

There are shockingly few Penn State alumni in Chicago on whom to get any bearing. I can't remember meeting a single one, and that's the only Big Ten school that I can say that about. I honestly can't remember meeting any in Washington either; although I was only there for less than a year.

I think even the young ones right out of college go straight to the suburbs. I wonder if it's a case that Joestown doesn't prepare them to deal with a large, diverse and chaotic city or the natural inclination of kids who are drawn to Joestown in the first place is going to preclude them ever wanting to live in a city.

Anybody getting the sense that traveling to Joestown as a visiting fan, particularly from Ohio State or Michigan, could be seriously dangerous?

With all the hatred and resentment that's been built up over what the "outsiders" have done, would anyone really feel safe walking back to a hotel from the stadium, in the dark, right after Urban has hung 70 on their paper thin team.

I have thought this for some time. We will be "targeted". They will be whipped into a blood lust and could be easily ignited into actual violence. I'm betting this will be a nationally televised game unless they completely fall on their face before. But those attending should be alert of their surroundings and not wander.

Why would anyone want to put themselves in that enviroment? I've been to games at Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern and Minnesota and always have had a great time with Buckeye and opposing fans. I have no interest in going to scUM, Happy Valley or Wisconsin. I would never spend a dollar at any of those places.

They were practically non-existent both within & just outside the beltway when I was in DC & at Meade.

The only place I have encountered large numbers is Philly & NJ.

Nobody hates Nebraska. It is the football equivalent of being gay (not that their is anything wrong with that).

We love CFB and don't want to taint it by acting like jackasses. When we were winning in the 90's there was plenty of hate. Now, this:

Re: POLL: Worst Visiting FanbaseEdit | Reply Buckeyes get my vote. Arrogant pricks. You would think after all of
their shenanigans they would STFU. Nebraska fans are sincere and reasonable, just a little misinformed. I spoke
with several in November.

A healthy amount of hate would be appreciated. I think in the next couple of years we'll be back.

To much support by Neb, fans for the PSU cultists for me but to each his own

I'm old enough to remember playing PSU in the 80's with their questionable officiating. I suspected something nefarious back then and started calling their coach Greasy Joe. They've been making a mockery of CFB for long enough. They needed to be hammered to restore respectability to the game.

Don't fault us corn aggies too much. I have been trying to understand the support for a while. At first I thought it was because they identified with the culture of PSU and equivalence of JoePa to Osborne. Disturbing. A breakthrough in my research came while talking to my parents who are true corn aggies (farmers). I concluded that most Nebraskans are probably giving PSU the benefit of the doubt since they can't comprehend how underhanded people can really be. They can't believe that 4 people could be so callous and cover up such heinous crimes. If you don't leave Nebraska you won't be exposed to those type of people.

Are you intentionally meaning to reinforce the hayseed stereotype?
