Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

"Well, yeah, if things rise to the level of OSU/Miami/USC violations, then yes, death penalty. We're just not seeing anything that bad given the FACTS haven't yet come to light"

Holy [Mark May], they're delusional.
I had to log off of audibles. I was getting really pissed reading what these mutant pigmonsters are typing. It's all about sparing their fucking mediocre football program.

I was hoping to find the exact quote, but Google won't cooperate.

There was an interview with the mural artist yesterday about halo removal. The guy said he was proud of Penn State for shining a light on this issue and that they were leading the way in making people think about the problem of child abuse in a way they never had before.

The article about the president coming down on the Agent in 98?

How was that not a reported violation? I can't be bothered to look it up, but there is no way that Penn state didn't have atleast one reported minor violation in all the years that he was the coach? Yet they are claiming zero violations... When having the wrong sort of spreads for a breakfast table can be a violation there is noway any school can be "clean"

*twitch*

These people make my brain tumor do the can-can. Lunacy.

In other news, I have a family friend PSU fan/alum staying with me for a weekend in August. This should be entertaining.

Joe Paterno's Alma Mater Cuts Ties With Coach

After playing cornerback and quarterback for Brown University, Joe Paterno received several honors from the university. Among those honors was induction into the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame, his name on a student award and his name on the university head coaching chair.

The latter two honors will be revoked the Providence Journal reports, as Brown University is "distancing itself" from the long-time Penn State head coach.

Have they ever self-reported anything....Like the asst. coach texting the recruit's family that he was on his way to unlock the gate? No program can go through life without racking up these little tick-tack errors.

If he had said Penn State has the opportunity to really step up, take responsibility, and help prevent this at any other school, I'd agree - the opportunity for leadership is there.

But to say they have? When the BOT is still hedging their statements with "let's look for the real killer' language? Umm, no.

This would be the equivalent of Mike Vick saying how proud he was to shed new light on animal cruelty...These people really have no fucking idea at all do they?

Clearly you don't get it. This is exactly why they're better than everybody else. They didn't report anything because they didn't do anything wrong. That's the Penn State Way.

So, if Ohio State would have just claimed they were doing things the Penn State Way the NCAA would have accepted it and moved on?

Damn it, Gene!!!!!

At the end of the day, it strikes right at the crux of the problem. Paterno was so wrapped up in this myth of not just being clean, not just being better than everyone else but of an image of Godlike perfection that his staff didn't commit (even inadvertently) the most minor of infractions.

He might have been a hero had he hung JS out to dry in 1998, but he (and his program) would not have been perfect. He couldn't show the rest of the world even that slightest bit of humanity. I also have little doubt that he rationalized it in terms of his "Grand Experiment" being of such majestic importance to the nation that some kids (losers from broken homes anyways) sacrificed to a monster, was an acceptable price to pay.
