Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

They just don't get it. Ohio State-tcun is ALWAYS the highest rated regular season game in college football, and it draws huge ratings in all the major metro areas across the country. It's the biggest rivalry in college sports and probably in US sports overall. Its ratings would usually put it second or third for any NFL week during the season. It's not that the B1G is trying to screw the pedsters; it's that they are simply following the money and promoting what is, by far, their biggest and most valuable product.
There are so many Bama-Auburn fans on X/Twitter that live to tell us all that The Game is boring and nobody cares about it. Only to be shown that the Iron Bowl does worse numbers than Ohio State v ND or Ohio State v Penn State.

And the Iron Bowl's numbers are probably very much concentrated in the Southeast. The Game (and Ohio State and tcun individually) has a national following, national alumni bases and national fanbases.

See my edit about how the games were telecast out West in the 80s. Ohio State-tcun was the 9am national telecast. Bama-Auburn, UCLA-USC and Pitt-pedsters were all noon games that were broken up and televised regionally.

When I was a kid growing up in the 80s out West and all the games were on ABC, the 9AM game was Ohio State-tcun televised nationally, and the noon game was broken up into regional rivalries (UCLA-USC, Bama-Auburn, Pitt-pedsters etc) It's the biggest rivalry in college sports and probably in US sports overall. You're right - they are "following the money". If the money wasn't there, they wouldn't do this, anymore. But remember that the money wasn't there when this started. The Game was the last game of the year starting in 1930-something. 1932? 1936? I forget. I don't know how much money was in the game at that point, but I'm sure it wasn't televised. So the Big Ten already knew the value of having The Game as the last game of the year, and it didn't even include any dollar signs, yet.

Penn State fans' demand is as ridiculous as Wisconsin fans trying to insist that all Big Ten games get a time out at the instant that the Wisconsin game gets to the end of the third quarter so that they can cut their broadcast to Wisconsin doing the Jump Around.

We all know that Fredo hockey invented Jump Around.
