Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Penn State’s beloved “black shoes” and “basic blues” are among the most iconic and well-known uniforms in college football. There are countless iconic games and memories associated with the Nittany Lions’ simple but clean blue and white uniforms that have stood the test of time.

The Nittany Lions’ uniforms may be historic themselves, but the program has been neglecting a key part of Penn State’s history for years — the university’s original color scheme of pink and black.

Other Penn State sports have long had a commemorative pink and black uniform. The men’s basketball team first introduced a pink and black alternate uniform 10 years ago, and women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, softball and men’s soccer have since followed suit.

Men’s soccer was one of the most recent additions to the pink-and-black club, and the jerseys certainly delivered. The players wore black shirts and shorts that had pink lettering and the ends of the sleeves lined with “We Are Penn State” in alternating pink and black. Arguably even better were the goalkeepers’ shirts, which were the inverse of the other players: all pink with black lettering.

The alternates these teams wear are undeniably a fan favorite considering how clean they look, and fans have been calling for football to join in with pink and black alternates of its own for years. Is this year the year Penn State finally listens?

It should be, especially after men’s basketball brought them back last season after a brief hiatus and men’s soccer introduced its own beloved pink-and-black alternate, making it the perfect time for the football team to introduce a jersey paying homage to the school’s original colors.

The team already pays tribute to the pink and black every season, as the S-Zone consists of a black background and a pink “S” every homecoming game. This gives the team a perfect way to take this particular homecoming spectacle one step further with a pink and black alternate.

Additionally, the pink and black could help the program raise money for a good cause, such as THON. Men’s soccer auctioned its game-worn alternate jerseys last season, with all the proceeds benefiting Penn State’s student-run philanthropy.

Penn State has worn alternate uniforms before — the team donned its “Generations of Greatness” alternates multiple times in the past few years that pull iconic aspects from past uniforms such as numbers on helmets and block numbers. Well, it’s time to pull some more aspects of the past into another alternate.

If Penn State is truly against using a pink and black alternate in-game, it could use the colors for a commemorative warm-up jersey, or it could wear the original colors in the Blue-White Game.

No matter where or when the Nittany Lions wear the pink and black, it needs to be worn sooner rather than later — it’s long overdue.

IDEA: They should wear pink and black to pay tribute to how Coach Franklin, and the university, deals with rape accusations...

Did they ever wear pink and black under Joe Paterno? If the answer is "No", then the fans will never go for it. If the answer is "Yes", they'd be up in arms that they haven't done it, yet.

I haven't seen their message boards screaming for it, so I'm guessing the answer is "No".

Remember when Bill O'Brien put their names on the back of their jerseys? That might have been worse than anything that Sandusky was accused of doing. (Remember, they don't think Sandusky is guilty, because if Sandusky isn't guilty, then there's nothing that Paterno could have covered up. Also, Paterno did everything right, anyway.)

Ha - nothing new from them, but they're whining about not being allowed to copy Winnipeg in the games they want to. This guy is at a little higher level than the others, though.
Yes indeed. The B2G conference hates…..HATES….. the White Out. A few years back it was getting huge coverage by all networks and was billed as the single best game to attend. Suckeye coach Urban hated it and said it was worth a TD to Penn State. It so intimidated Hairball’s team that got called for delay of game before the very first play.

The White Out was becoming bigger than the annual GAME OF THE CENTURY!!!! BIGGEST GAME EVER PLAYED!!!!! No way could this be tolerated.

Suddenly, the White Out was always scheduled for other teams. Out of conference like Auburn or teams like Iowa or Illinois…… never the Two Kings.

Now we only have one home game the entire month of October. And it’s newcomer UCLA. Suckeyes moved to Nov to protect them. Mich off the schedule completely. Very strange how thst all worked out…..

Hate this damned conference. Another reason why I watch far less football than ever.
"Single best game to attend." By anyone outside central Pennsylvania? I'll guess no.
"Worth a TD to Penn State?" Meh.
"Intimidated" the cheaters? I have my doubts.
"Bigger than The Game"? I don't believe it.
Then he brings up that the scheduling is done to screw Penn State out of the white out.
What's their record in white out games? Wikipedia says it's 11-8, but that doesn't seem to count their game against Ohio State in 2007.

Is that not a white-out?

Or 2009:

Remember: white-outs used to be just the student section.

Always funny to see fans try to involve themselves in a fictional history that disadvantages their team unfairly. They were the big fish in a small pond for a long time, characterized by pedastry that they tried to ignore, then hide.

Winning meant more to them than the children who were abused and now they project themselves as victims because the athletic world will not lay down and take one for them. They should make a real try to join the SEC. They'd be much more certain to win a championship there.

The other Eastern Independents knew what was up. There's a reason that they ran away from JoePed's proposed Eastern league as fast as they could and the first thing they did in the Big East was to blackball JoePed's application. B1G should have been paying attention.
