Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

That's interesting. Everything I've ever read by those blokes was the "we refuse to play where race is an issue" story.

Yep. Part of the Paterno myth that they couldn't simply do something but, rather, had to do it for some incredibly noble reason.

They didn't duck Texas in the Cotton Bowl in 1969 to avoid an ass kicking, they did it because JoePa put the interest of his black players not having to play in the South above that of winning a NC. Of course, he chose to instead play a bowl game that season in...checks notes...Florida.

I don't know what any of those links say, but I'm going to dismiss them immediately considering the source.
They are actually all pretty good. They all relate the story of how PSU's cheerleaders copied Ohio State's "OH-IO" and USC's "We Are SC" cheers to come up with their "We Are Penn State" cheer. As with mostly all of their "traditions", they copied it from someone else.

Thank you for wading through the unsure waters of Pedstate lore.

You know. ....a certain agricultural and mechanical school in Tejas seems a natural rival

Well, in fairness, when they're left to create their own they come up with shit like this:
