Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Isn't that the beginning of the thread we are in right now?
No, this thread started a little over a month after Paterno was fired.

edit - I guess it was the 241 page Sandusky thread I was thinking of. That’s the one that had the discussion of things just before and after Paterno got fired on Nov 9, 2011.

We tried to make a football only PSU thread. It didn't work.

Other than a few specific games, no one gives a fuck about PSU football.

The PSU football cult, on the other hand, is as fascinating as it is sickening. I liken the popularity to society's fascination with serial killers.

This is very true in the Philadelphia area, and I believe it's true in the Pittsburgh area as well. Both are more NFL and NHL cities- the only time that Philadelphia fans will show up for anything affiliated with college sports are the Big 5, or a high profile opponent coming to play Temple. They may get Lincoln Financial Field about half full with BC this year, but the Owls only high profile games the next few years are Miami-FL (2023) & Oklahoma (2025)

Same with Pittsburgh.

Another laugh at Penn State, their non conference games are a joke for the most part. I'm not sure what Auburn has, and West Virginia is okay.

2021- Ball State, Auburn, Villanova
2022- Ohio Univ, @ Auburn, Central Michigan
2023- West Virginia, Delaware, UMass
2024- @ West Virginia, Bowling Green, Kent State
2025- Nevada, Villanova
2026- Marshall, @ Temple, San Jose State
2027- Delaware, Temple

“Micah Parsons has fallen,” McShay said. “Micah Parsons is the best defensive player in this draft based solely on tape, but he’s got some off-the-field issues, some past character stuff and some things that teams are concerned about in terms of bringing things in. So he’s going to fall a little bit but, again, I think he’s going to be a star in the league. I really do. If you can move back and get Parsons and additional picks, that’s a win for Detroit.

“Micah Parsons is going to fall a little bit further than all of us anticipate, so he could be a really good pickup and a value at this spot (for the Washington Football Team).”

I’m reminded of the recreational drug issues on the team that were reportedly so bad that recruits on official visits became fully aware of the problem.

Whether or not that had anything to do with Micah Parsons, it’s still a fun bit of trivia for any holier than though Penn State fans you might run across, and also reveals a bit about James Franklin and their recent (lack of) success.

I don't know that Joe Paterno knew what recreational drugs were so he couldn't have known...wait, what was the question?

-pretty much any Penn State fan you run across
