Not sure I will get a serious reply to this, but does anyone think we could see some kids back out of their verbals if between now and Feb. we see some kind of punishment handed down like they deserve, ie: Lack of Institutional Control? I just can't see why any kids would want to go their and was hoping something would wake them up.

That's always possible, but not to be depended upon.

From this goober:
It turns out that, after all of the coverage of the McQueary allegation and the resulting ignominious ending of a 60 year era at Penn State football and the death of a legend, ...

I are not an english major. Sometimes I'm surprised I can type my password to log in to windows. But is he saying that this investigation is what killed Paterno? I didn't know you could get lung cancer from media coverage.

Another thing that caught my eye:
Most people, even in the news media, are also unaware that there was only one other allegation of actual rape (interestingly the mother of that victim does not blame Penn State or Paterno at all) in the grand jury report,

Meh. Penn State is OK in my book. There was ONLY one other rape. (I guess molesting kids is ok as long as you ONLY rape one of them? CRIPES!!!)

Lastly:
Most people are as unaware of the basic fact as they are that Sandusky was a FORMER Penn State assistant at the time McQueary came to him. In Paterno's mind Sandusky was no longer his responsibility.

Some dude is doing stuff on YOUR campus and it isn't your responsibility to stop that? I am liking this fan base less and less. And that's saying a lot.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Just because many of us realize that Penn State is a blight that needs to be driven from the Earth doesn't mean we believe the NCAA is in a position to be the instrument of that cleansing.

The only thing powerful enough to cleanse Ped Aggy off the face of the earth is Chuck Connor's chin.

Well, you see, if your kid is molesting people in your bathroom shower while living at your house then it is clearly your responsibility to stop it.

On the other hand, if your kid is grown up and no longer living in your home and they only molest people in your bathroom shower during visits on the holidays, clearly that is not the least bit your concern.

Report the molestation to the homeowner's association and you've done everything that can be reasonably expected of you- I am sure everyone would agree.

In fact, you've done so much in response to the situation that no one can even expect you to follow up on that initial report when the molestation continues to occur on holidays in your house for the next decade.

I understand the argument. But I fully believe that the cover-up by the Athletic Director, if done with the intent to protect the public perception of the integrety of the Football program, is under NCAA jurisdiction.

However the justice is, perhaps, best served by state and federal funds being pulled... Not necessarily the NCAA dishing out any punishment. Frankly, if the NCAA wants to have a shot at the dead body after the state and feds are done, I'm ok with that.

Opening line of a quote:

The problem is that to penalize the program, I think you need to show that PSU Football, with knowledge and intent, allowed these activities to occur around the team. At this point, that has never been shown.

So, it has not been shown that the University, from the president down to the lowly little head coach (sarcasm for those whose switch is off today), knew of the fact that Jer the Pedo Bear was engaging in these acts on campus in the football facilities and did nothing to stop it?

Um, Kay.

Fucking cults, man.

The oversized "We Are Penn State" license plate that once perched above the door of my ESPN office, has been put away, along with photos of me as a proud, smiling cheerleader for the Nittany Lions.

And weeks ago when my son received his very first college acceptance letter from my alma mater, Penn State -- a moment I thought would be one of the pinnacles in my life -- we both tossed the letter aside and prayed that he'd get accepted into a "better school." (Our prayers were answered.)

Serious question to those who think the NCAA should not get involved.

Is it not a competitive advantage for a school to cover up a serious crime of a highly regarded football coach in order to "protect the brand"?

And even after he "retired", he was alledgedly trying to sway potential recruits and was allowed free reign on campus to keep up his devious acts, does this not scream lack of institutional control?
