Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I don't even know who their QB is supposed to be this year...that's how irrelevant this clown college is now.
Regardless of who it is, you can be damn sure the personnel doesn't match the up-tempo spread they're implementing this season without the burden of a (reportedly) talented QB.

Franklin is seemingly going full Rodriguez and is going to get fired soon. I look forward to the show.

TL;DR but I notice the first date was after the Paterno "success with honor" era. How convenient.

But it was when the school was under a very strong microscope.

As you know, PSU had an Athletics Integrity Monitor on-campus during the July 2012 - December 2015 time period. I seriously doubt, given that environment, the answers to Zurp's 2nd through 4th questions would be anything besides "yes', "no", and "yes." But who knows.

Zurp's 5th question --- given that I post on BWI and also visit other college football message boards, I've heard an incredible amount of rumors!! But I must admit: I've never heard that particular rumor before. The APR is a published statistic. If someone starts at PSU --- or any other FBS football institution --- but doesn't get a 4-year degree from somewhere or other, it will ding the school's APR. So, to keep the APR up, he will need to graduate from somewhere. If one can find an instance of a PSU football player who didn't graduate from University Park but did graduate from one of the handful of branch campuses that offers 4-year degrees, that would be a data point to support the rumor. Is there such a data point? If that data point exists, how does the APR look upon that data point?

Zurp's 1st question --- I have no illusions. Penn State football students, no doubt, do not take as challenging a course load as the normal undergraduate. There's a reason many football players are Kinesiology majors. The better the college football player, the less likely he is to have a strong desire to "play school." Is what it is.

Anyway, now you have "seen these questions answered."

1. Fair enough. And like 27 said (when answering another question), I'm sure it happens at Ohio State, too. But it seems as though the "We're Penn State and therefore better than everyone else" crowd doesn't seem to have that possibility in mind.
2, 3, 4. I forget the questions. I seem to remember that I speculated that no one was watching Penn State and the students' workload. I didn't mean to make accusations. Maybe just stating one extreme. I think you're right, though. As much as I hate the "if there's smoke, there's fire" analogy, I'll say that if there was fire, we'd have heard about the smoke, given the environment at Penn State post-Paterno.
5. I'm sure I heard that rumor on this site. Maybe even in this thread. I don't check out many other sites. I sometimes look at BWI (I wouldn't have seen it there), Michigan's Scout board (they really don't care about Penn State), and occasionally Notre Dame's board (but only when they're losing in spectacular fashion). Anyway, the rumor wasn't that the players were graduating from other campuses; it was that they weren't going to graduate at all. And instead of hurting Penn State's numbers, they "went away". I've seen the APR formula, and it has to do with players remaining eligible. But I forget how they calculate transferring players. Anyway, the graduate percentage is calculated by the school, isn't it? So Penn State can choose whether to count players who transfer out. But the APR is calculated by the NCAA. And every year when the APR is released, Penn State fans seem to complain about what a stupid statistic it is, because Ohio State has been beating Penn State lately.

I think my point to all that (TL;DR) was what 27 already said:

I never thought of a school graduating students instead of students graduating from the school. These people, in their rush to anoint Paterno as the greatest human ever, have decided that he alone graduated all of these players.....

When I think about any of the schooling I had, I don't think of them graduating me. My professors never graduated me. I graduated. It sounds silly that Paterno graduated his players. It sounds like he's sneaking into the administration building and changing grades. Or there's a form he fills out for every senior, with one question: "Should this player graduate?" and Paterno always checks the "Yes" box. Like John Cooper would choose to check the "No" box?

Bizarre story involving a Penn State weirdo:

... The photo “Kashani” and “Schermer” used for their profiles was the same one used by a man named Nader Modgeddi. Here, the online trail gets uglier. “Nader Modgeddi is a student at Penn State University who harasses Women on social media,” the anti-harassment site Male Violence reported. That site has saved files of almost 40 pages of vile tweets Modgeddi directed at various women in 2014,

Some jerk comes in claiming to be a "fan of college football" or something, and he's making a blog about all of the teams/fan bases in the Big Ten. And about going to games at their stadiums. And all kinds of junk that only fans of those teams are going to care about (and still probably not read). So he comes in asking about Penn State games, including, "11. Lastly, since I'm trying to do this for all the teams in the Big Ten, I thought I'd ask if you have any experience traveling to other schools in the conference? Favorite/Least Favorite Big Ten school to visit for games? Any horror or success stories or general advice you'd give from your experiences?" He gets normal answers: "Go do your own homework," and "Go back to your own board, troll!" Ok, I made that last one up. But it's in every thread on BWI. Anyway, a few people help out.

He comes back the next night: "Oh yeah, and the one response that has been consistent across all of the B1G schools is that everyone hates Ohio State..."

I.... AM..... OUTRAGED! You mean that by beating everyone else down pretty consistently for 10+ years, we aren't loved by all?

Change the American Flag to the state flag of Ohio and I'm Kenny Powers celebrating every time we are awarded "most hated" team/fans in America/B1G/etc..
