Peach Bowl: #1 Georgia vs #4 tOSU, Sat 12/31 8 ET on ESPN

I hope CJ is practicing his impromptu running out of pass plays in the team's preparation for this game. It will look like a completely different offense from the last several games if he can get a few 6 or 7 yard runs in the 1st quarter.
The one thing Georgia does not do well is pressure the QB. Which also is something we do well as an OL. CJ should have time to throw and now it's just are we going to call plays that are aggressive down the field.

Pretty concerned about Georgia's ability to induce offensive lines into false starts. Kirby Smart has beat this drum for a long time and openly talks about his strategy in moving defensive lineman at specific moments when the offensive line is set, to draw out false starts.

We already commit too many penalties but I'm already mentally preparing for like 4 or 5 false starts.
I noticed this when watching their games... it's smart and I don't know why more don't do this.

Maybe it gets a false start but also it changes the OL assignments when a DL shifts late. Tempo stops this though which is something I really hope we do.

Yea they do full line shifts just before the snap. As for the lack of pressure....UGA gets their pressure on qb's during big games. Period. Bigger the game the more they dial it up.

More impressive than anything Ohio State and UGA have done on the field this year. 30 seconds to eat a burrito

And here I was thinking I would never find love. I am asking her on a date to Chipotle.

I like Xavier Johnson but every time he lined up at RB against Michigan it was a “gimmick” play. If he needs to give us some snaps at RB, you can’t just assume a flare pass is going to be effective….all antennas are up when he’s lined up there.

I think Chip and Hayden can be an effective combo. If Miyan is semi-healthy I think that’s a bonus.

My biggest thing is multiple years now in a playoff game, a RB has gotten hurt and the entire gameplan goes to hell. I just hope whichever RB’s we have available all are ready to execute any playcall on the sheet.

It’s been my biggest gripe to date with Day…..he has isolated plays for specific personnel. If a player gets hurt, large chunks of a playbook are gone…..it happened when Sermon went down and it happened when Dobbins went down. I can’t state this enough……certainly great RB’s went down hurt……but the game plans shrank immediately. If we have a special screen, or trick play, or a newly installed play…….the RB’s need to be ready to execute it all.

Sermon getting hurt against Bama was the reason that game got outta hand as much as we blame the defense. Our offense imploded once Master Teague entered and our playbook became the equivalent of a coloring book.

I was saying the same thing all season with Day calling plays to specific players and not being able to adjust if they get hurt. Clearly that happened against ND with JSN getting hurt, and it has happened with the run game too over the season. That said, I really want to see Hayden get a healthy dose of carries, the dude has the hot hand. Miyan needs some carries too if he is near full health, but Hayden needs to get his touches...if we have Miyan and Hayden, I think we can roll with that and be plenty effective.

Unless they can run the ball, it's going to be hard to get Georgia out of a 2 deep shell that everyone seems to play against OSU.
Which brings me to what I wanted to bring up. IMO this Georgia defense is not a dominant run defense. Are they good? Very good but ive noticed some tendencies when watching some clips of them.

In the LSU and the Missouri games they gave up long 40-50 yard runs right up the middle on either counter or cut backs. I guess their good DT has conditioning issues as well.

I really think if we go hurry up it will stop them from moving so much and will allow us to hit them with the run (perhaps after a successful pass attempt).

They are very good but they are not 2021 Georgia. Again not saying we'll go for 250 yards on them but I don't see why we can't hit 130-150.

We're actually only any good at running right up the middle.

Problem is that Day seems to think we're really good at running wide.

It's one of the main reasons I just don't think he's the guy. Every X & O guy in the Buckeye blogosphere has pointed it out and when he's run straight ahead stuff this year it's worked great but he keeps going back to all that wide zone shit that our ginormous, pass pro first OL can't do. It's maddening. A good coach shouldn't be that stubborn or obvious.

Listening to Zach Smith today (yes, I know) and he made a point that stretch is something Kevin Wilson more so had conviction in. That Day was sort of sold that this is what is best.

Should be noted that coach Frye is definitely more downhill so maybe that changes. Guess we'll find out.

Agreed though that it's all about if we can actually execute to take advantage of anything they give us.

I'd love to go tempo, I think the offense works better when we do, we just need a certain tackle to not false start when we do it.
