David Richard / Associated PressTitans punter A.J. Trapasso runs for a touchdown after faking a punt in the first quarter Sunday of the Hall of Fame game in Canton.
It was his first appearance ever in an NFL game -- and his first career punt attempt -- but Tennessee Titans rookie A.J. Trapasso sure didn't disappoint under the pressure.
The Titans, playing as the original Houston Oilers to commemorate the American Football League's 50th anniversary, beat the Buffalo Bills, 21-18, in Sunday's Hall of Fame Game, which kicked off the 2009 NFL preseason. On Saturday, Bills founder and owner Ralph Wilson Jr. and former defensive end Bruce Smith were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, giving good reason for the Bills-dominated crowd at Fawcett Stadium in Canton.
But the Buffalo fans were hushed early on after Trapasso executed a planned hide-the-ball fake punt and ran 40 yards for a touchdown on the opening drive, giving the Titans a 7-0 lead.
"We played it tonight just to have fun," Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said. "It was designed; it was deception."
