P A.J. Trapasso (Official Thread)

Trap's punting has been key to victory in 2 or 3 games this year.

I'm looking forward to when we run another fake punt with him. It worked well against Minny last year.

:osu:

Two weeks v PSU at home. That'd be a very good spot for it near midfield somewhere.

AJ's been a complete monster thus far. Should go ahead and give him 1st team Big10 now.

Swinging the big stick

Punter A.J. Trapasso said when he's standing with his back near his goal line, he often feels like he's on a golf tee for a par-5 hole. In those situations, he said, you grab the driver and swing away -- like the way he stroked a 67-yard punt Saturday at Wisconsin.
"I kind of like kicking out of our end of the field because I can just sort of lay into it a little bit," Trapasso said. "You just let her rip.
"There's a lot more to it than that, though, because you can't try too hard. That's when you get the shanks."

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CRAIG HOLMAN DISPATCH
Senior A.J. Trapasso of Pickerington has held the Ohio State punting job since 2005. By the time his career ends, he will have punted balls nearly 4.8 miles.

A.J.Trapasso believes his mug shot -- or more accurately, a "Not Wanted" poster -- is plastered on the walls of several Pickerington preschools.
"I think my picture is still up in La Petite (Academy)," he said. "It's like, 'Him or his kids are not allowed to ever have preschool here.' "
He laughs, but he's not joking. Trapasso was a wild child, and his penchant for biting and kicking teachers prompted more than one preschool to expel little A.J.
Later, as a smart but headstrong teen, he drifted toward trouble in the form of partying and alcohol.
It took a one-two punch of arrests in 2004 to help set him straight. And since then, life has been good.

OFF CAMPUS WITH . . .

Tuesday, November 04, 2008
Ohio State punter A.J. Trapasso
The lowdown: The senior re cently was named one of 10 fi nalists for the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter. His 42.34-yard average ranks only 26th in the country, but Ohio State's net average, the punt minus the return, is 38.54 yards and ranks second in the Big Ten and 12th in the country. He's been a mainstay since 2005 and will be replaced next year by either current backup Jon Thoma or freshman Ben Buchanan.
Best concert I've been to: "Dave Matthews Band in 2001 at Polaris, my sophomore year of high school."
Concert I'd most like to see now: "Kenny Chesney."
Favorite video game: " NHL 2008' on PS3. I play as the Blue Jackets."
Favorite Web site: "ESPN.com. I also go on the NCAA football Web site to see what's going on in college football."

A.J. Trapasso

Punter

Pickerington | Age: 22

Parting thought: "It's just the opportunity that it's given me. I've managed to come out of here with a degree, and (to get) a full-ride scholarship alleviated a lot of debt to my parents or to me. In that sense, I'm super-grateful for that. And I think more than anything, I'll take away just the memories that were made and the friendships that were made."
