I picked up 10 bags of Royal Oak and Cowboy charcoal-lump, not briquettes, mid winter at a discount grocery store. Granted, I bought it in the middle of winter, but it's not like it goes bad. I paid $2.99 a bag. Those scratch and dent places can be a gold mine...

This stuff is magical. I burned the hell out of my hand yesterday, and it doesn't hurt at all today after several coatings with this stuff.

I tried to keep it between 210 and 220 and cooked them in the smoker for about 13 hours and finished them in the oven at 300 for another 2 hours. I had to get them to temperature (190) in time for the party. I then let them rest for another 45 minutes before shredding them.
