Unfortunately for them and MD, they are going to get thrown into the East division where there'll be little room for error. If sparty stays strong, Michigan ever gets back to being a top ten program and the pedsters survive sanctions it could make for a miserable existence.

Have to admit that I am really, really hoping to see them smack ped aggy around for a couple of years. BWI meltdowns would be hokeing epic.

While I appreciate your undying faith, let it go man. The skunkbear is on the pavement.

The week you play M*ch*gan we'll love you like brothers.

As seen here:

http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/67876-about-that-osumichigan-rivalry-what-i-know-now/
I have heard how serious this rivalry is seemingly forever. It was hard to imagine the hatred that attends the hyperbole I have seen online. I always figured, "Well, just the worst fans, anonymous, from each team, spouting utter nonsense and putrid insults at one another." No big deal, move on and proceed with life.
Two weeks ago, I discovered that it is every bit as, err, "spirited", as it seems to an outsider.
I was camping down near the Everglades here in Florida. Our cabins all had satellite TV . . . which was not hooked up.
So, when game day for NU against Michigan arrived, I went into the nearest small suburban area and found a sports bar. They had all the major games and assured me the food was good, and that the NU game would be on. In fact, they tuned the biggest screen at the bar to that channel. I suggested other people might want to see some SEC games or ACC games on the largest screen in the place. He said, "No worries. They like to gather in small groups at smaller screens. They all know each other and like to chill together."
I sat on a barstool next to a lanky blonde man who was mumbling under his breath, a constant stream of barely audible syllables. After ten minutes I realized he was glued to the Iowa State game. I introduced myself and told him I was from Nebraska, originally. We chatted for a bit. He is a scientist fighting root disease in citrus crops here in Florida. Nice fellow. His team lost. He mumbled his way out of the bar, and I settled in for the Nebraska/Michigan game.
I don't recall how exactly it occurred, but I was cheering on a good play when I realized the bar was probably 60% full now, with over half of them also watching the Nebraska/Michigan game. And cheering for Nebraska. I saw TONS of red. Everywhere. I introduced myself to a few. There must have been 20-25 that were in this group that seemingly appeared from nowhere.
After a few more cheers, I started to inquire among them. "You from Nebraska?" A cute blonde lady answered first, "No. Ohio." She turned so I could see the rest of her red shirt and it had a giant OSU logo on it. I looked more closely at everyone around me. Of the 25 or so, about 20 were wearing OSU gear. The rest were Husker fans.
As halftime neared, I spoke a little more to some of them. It turned out that only 3 people actually knew each other and they all lived nearby. The rest came to root "AGAINST" Michigan. Just because they WERE Michigan. OSU was in bye week, I believe, but all these OSU fans turned out to cheer on Nebraska to beat OSU's hated rival. In chatting further, I discovered that two were OTR truckers, another was a lady who was in the middle of a drive from the Florida Keys to Atlanta for business. Others were travelers just passing through.
None of this, aside from the three locals, was planned, as near as I could tell. No one else made great efforts at finding out much about each other. Maybe some met through some message board or forum, or set it up that way. I have no idea. But it was amazing to sit in a small crowd like that and all cheer for Nebraska to win. Or Michigan to lose, I guess, for the OSU fans. Some of them knew very little about Nebraska. One even asked me if we had come to the B1G from the Big EAST.
But they all turned out in hopes of watching Michigan LOSE. No other reason that I could see. I spoke with the blonde again and she explained, "I have no clue whether Michigan losing helps The Buckeyes. I just like to watch Michigan lose."
That pretty much covers it. It was a great time!

and you'll notice not a post from me in any of those 20 pages

I am not concerned about the strength of scUM or the rest of the B1G.

But are you concerned about Ohio State's chance to play for a National Championship because that's what it all comes down to?

I can enjoy my Michigan misery and have been doing so for the last couple of weeks after it became apparent that they couldn't help us win or lose. Where I draw the line is in hoping for them to lose every game when we desperately need them to be a relevant program and bring up the strength of the B1G, so that our victory over them will help propel us into the NC game/playoff (and don't think for a moment that a 1-loss Ohio State couldn't get left out of a four team playoff based on sos/negative B1G perceptions). So, I'll enjoy the plunger they have coming on Saturday and then turn around and root for them to win a bowl game and roll their ooc schedule next year.

Actually I am of the belief that under the playoff format, we should be fans of the easiest path.

I'll take the B1G as it currently stands with just needing to be top 4 for a shot at the NC every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

FSU, Miami, Nebraska and others have made mini NC dynasty's out of that formula in the past. It works.

And then have twenty pages of angst a month later when we wonder why we're being left out of the big show.

It doesn't really matter who I root for.
Therefore, it makes sense to me to enjoy whichever situation develops.
- scUM loses a lot, I may as well partake in the Schadenfreude
- scUM wins a lot, I can celebrate the return of a storied rivalry guaranteed to put us on national tv every Saturday after Thanksgiving

I understand that the strength of the big ten won't be as much of a problem in the future as if we're undefeated we won't get left out. Sorry to burst your bubble, but we're not going undefeated every year. I would like a chance at it as a 1 loss big ten champ. In our division we won't be getting a lot of help from Indiana Maryland Penn State or Rutgers. So we need one of ttun and MSU to be perennial top-15 and the other top-25, as well as one of the teams that we play from the other side of the conference being respected. If 2 of Iowa, Nebraska, Wisky can be respectable we're in good shape. It will also be nice to get teams like Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, and even Va Tech and TCU on the schedule.

You aren't going to burst any bubbles of mine.

It's M*ch*gan week. The only pole I care about is the one that gets rammed up their collective ass.
