Hello from Rutgers...

I was just wondering what the general view on Rutgers was from Ohio State fans. The Rutgers fans are disgusted with this season and many are looking for a new coach. What kind of coach could Rutgers realistically expect? Any thoughts?

Some of you asked for me to share Rutgers info with you. Best places to find it are
nj.com - the state's paper
but a new freelancer that many of us seem to like is a guy Sal Soothsayer who has his own website
and he's also a good twitter follow if youre interested in Rutgers. Seems balanced.
He wrote an article that is getting a lot of talk on the Rutgers boards about who would be interested in coaching at Rutgers if Kyle Flood were fired: http://www.salsoothsayer.com/#!pandemonium-in-piscataway/c1on8
I was just wondering what you guys thought.

I honestly have no idea. My Rutgers knowledge is very limited. I'd imagine it depends on what they are willing to pay, not only for the HC, but assistants as well.

Rutgers being a huge university with recruiting grounds that can be very fertile...what I'd love to see is them make a financial commitment to excellence. Go after a good coach and give him money for assistants.

I firmly believe that the B1G should require thr conference members to use a percentage of BTN money along with the upcoming tv deal to invest in football. Carrying the conference was all well and good until their stagnation appears to have cost tOSU a shot at the title.

Do you think Rutgers views their entrance into the B1G as a financial windfall or an opportunity to rise up and compete with national powers?

a financial windfall

Big Ten affiliation already paying dividends for Rutgers with IMG College deal

Rutgers Athletic Director Julie Hermann said working with college marketing company IMG is a "fantastic opportunity."

When Rutgers reached a deal last month with IMG College — a leading collegiate sports marketing company that helps schools monetize their various programs — it gained a partner that will pay Rutgers for the right to help sell the school like never before. From finding buyers that will sponsor tweets or chalk talks with football coach Kyle Flood or filling ad space on the new LED scoreboard at the RAC to something as minor as selling program ads, the deal represents the latest stage of revenue-growth for the school’s athletic department.

Well of course it's a financial windfall, but hopefully they'll take advantage of increasing revenue and try to compete.

I could be wrong but I suspect I may know as much about Rutgers as anyone on this site..
Have followed the Knights in great detail since 2004 (the first year my daughter attended Rutgers)
and through the years.. in the press as well as 2nd-hand info daughter and my youngest son who has
played sports with a number of the Rutgers players in HS...

I highly suspect the Big Ten went after Rutgers... not vice versa... in a big way
Rutgers was already in a pretty good spot.. with the Big East and bowl affiliations plus the Tri-State media connections

The Big Ten wanted Rutgers because media contracts are priced based on HH exposures
and the Tri-State market brings in huge dollars to the B1G coffers.. huge.. with now adding the #1 media mkt in the land

Lastly, I don't think Rutgers problems are coaching... but a few key player positions...
which will improve just being part of the B1G... however, the biggest issue Rutgers faces IMMEDIATELY
is that they need to increase the avg size of every position and especially the line (DL is the size of B1G LBs)

and my youngest two are thrilled being able to watch B1G games in person...
whether they'll be that happy on their drive back home... dunno

PS VERY similar scenario with B1G quest to get MD and the DC & Baltimore markets... HUGE financial windfalls
and both schools bring excellent academic reputations

I don't really follow coaching seaches, but if I were an AD with a head coach vacancy, I'd seriously consider making a run for Craig Bohl. I've been a proponent for giving successful lower-division coaches a shot at bigger jobs ever since our experience with Coach Tressel.

I've been telling my Husker coworker that if Pelini gets canned, Tom Osbourne would be wise to look to Fargo for his next coach...

The only part of your post i disagree with is the BIG going after Rutgers big time.

I don't care how good their big east bowl tie ins were, all it took is for the B1G to ask and they jumped eagerly.

Oh, I'm not saying Rutgers didn't jump immediately... stupid they're not... but there is also no way Rutgers approached the B1G... suicide is not part of their curriculum
My point was more to B1G would have accepted Seton Hall, Fairleigh Dickinson (sarcasm font).. whichever school could bring in the Tri-State metro media market and none were a better fit than Rutgers - sports, size, academics, reputation

Yeah I can agree with that. The B1G wanted that market. Rutgers is really the only viable option. That being said, if I were the last man on earth and Jessica Alba is DTF, I'm not gonna make her ask twice.
