OSU/PSU LB Depth (split from Dorian Bell thread)

it is amazing that as dumb as this guy is that he can even use a computer!! If you are just talking purely linebackers it is not even close as far as the future is concerned, and doent talk about the recent past. Future Sabino, and Sweat and probably Bell. Past Hawk and Carpenter, Present JL and Freeman. All these guys are as good or better than anyone Penn State has put out. But, lets talk overall team and recent success. We are the cream of the crop as far as talent is concerned, just ask any NFL scout!!! Granted Penn State is somewhat competative every other year and thats great for Penn State. We compete nationally EVERY YEAR!!! So keeping praying for second place every year in the BIG Ten while the Buckeyes are carrying your dead weight nationally to bring some respect to the conferance. When you mention Big TEN football no one is thinking Penn State, But they are thinking of the BUCKEYES!!!!

Can't use a computer? Did I even spell one word wrong...HAHA. I guess you guys are getting tired of carrying Michigan's dead weight as well, "the GAME" is going to have all the drama of a pillow fight with RR coaching UM. Then again when you run through the conference two consecutive years and get to the NC game I guess it is easy to say you are carrying everyone else.

I believe I made my point and articulated it quite well, the point being that as far as the future is concerned it is close. It is quite hard to argue LBs against LB U. I guess when tOSU pulls Bell out of Western PA we will be hearing all about how he is a better athlete than LaVar Arrington and is the best recruit to ever come out of Pennsylvania. Might want to read up on some of the PA & Pennsylvania greats to play at Penn State...

Jack Ham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He was All-Pro seven years and was named to eight straight Pro Bowls. He was named the greatest outside linebacker of all time by a consortium of professional sports writers, beating Lawrence Taylor for this honor

Sounds to me like Penn State LBs have always been much more prominent than tOSU posters/fans would like to believe. Guess that is why it is LB U and you guys try to claim monikers on your own or say you are the 'NEW'.

How would it be indicative of the depth at the position. You brought in 5 LBs in '06 - one was a 5* JUCO. One was moved to DE apparently...the kid from Cali I believe. With the other 2 at DE and the two LBs who are 6'1-6' 210-215 pounds you are essentially at 6 or 7 LBs we are clearly at 8 or 9. 4

Using your logic:

Marcus Freeman 4*
Jermale Hines 4*
Ross Homan 4*
James Laurinaitis 3*
Tyler Moeller 4*
Brian Rolle 4*
Austin Spitler 3*
Curtis Terry 3*
Incoming frosh:
Andrew Sweat 4*
Etienne Sabino 4*

Converted from LB:
Thad Gibson 4*
Mark Johnson 4*

Assuming Laurinaitis, Freeman, and Terry are the starters, OSU has 6 4* players that aren't even starting, plus 2 more 4* that were converted to DE due to the depth.

I won't pretend to know anything about the PSU LB situation, but I do know that OSU has a lot of quality depth at the position.

Pretty sure the comments with regard to watching the language is aimed at me, SORRY.

If it was aimed just at you, I probably would've called you a foul name, you'd be more than "pretty sure." :p

It was intended for everyone so the mods don't have to sort through it all to filter out the profanity.

I like how you created your own argument there.

Seriously, what was the point in that? What justifications do you have for doing it? I see nobody calling Bell the best recruit out of PA, and I don't see anyone claiming that he's a better athlete than Arrington. So you make that argument, then defend your side. You're arguing with yourself!

Bell wouldn't start as a freshman at tOSU? Why not...Your starting LBs in '08 are gone after the season is over, you know it and I know it so why your pretending you rotate LBs every other series is beyond my comprehension. Sabino will probably rack up 12 tackles all year long while not redshirting and you'll be proud that a 5* LB blew up some walk-on that plays for Youngstown State or Troy...that is awesome BRAH! [Okay...now I'm shittalkin]

You realize you rip on Sabino (5*>4*, just following your reasoning, which is stupid) for playing special teams and only having 12 tackles, yet you hype Colastani, a guy who didn't redshirt, who only had a handful of tackles himself. That sort of hypocrisy is why you're not getting anywhere with your arguemnt. Also, no one was ripping on the depth of PSU. They were just saying that Ohio State has equal depth of PSU. It wasn't an insult, and shouldn't have been taken as one.

What the heck? Now you're arguing against a point that nobody even made......

Why don't you stick to points that are actually being made. Like the content in this thread.

Wait... what does Lavar, Poz, Conner, or Jack Ham have anything to do with depth in 2009? I'm confused. I'm familar with Colisanti, and if your argument is that he's the next one in that line, then I think we've got 3 people better than him. Of course, that's my educated opinion. It seems you need some more education, talking smack about a former junior college defensive player of the year. You need to watch some film rather than looking at star ranking and heigths/weights of players.

I need to stop reading this thread. I'm wasting my time and my brain cells.

Are you calling out tOSU fans for maybe, possibly making a future argument that hasn't even been stated. No one said he was a better athlete than Arrington. Where are you coming up with this stuff?

I'm just going to leave you alone. You can't comprehend what we're saying, and you're putting words in our mouths. Nobody said all of our backup LBs would start at PSU. We said Marcus Freeman would, but he's not a backup.

You just love being hypocritical. You're bashing us for liking our LBs, yet in every post you spew out this foul text about how your backup LBs are all four star players and are better than our LBs. You're doing what you keep saying we're doing.

Your comprehension is excellent. Why do you think the thread was split off? Because I responded to this from S&G:

1. Just made me laugh when he said he was worried about depth issues at Penn State and then you look at our depth chart. Its really night and day our second and third stringers could start there. No knock on Penn State but thats the kind of talent we have here.

2. Where if he went to Penn State i would be surprised if he didn't start next year for them. Don't get me wrong i think he will end up with S&G but even with us graduating three senior starters our depth is far superior to Penn State

So let me see if I can "comprehend". Ohio State posters take offense to me saying Bell would start at tOSU, but I take exception to someone saying they would be surprise if Bell wasn't a starter as a freshman at Penn State and I'm the one who doesn't understand. LOL. "Our second and third stringers could start there".

No they couldn't. As I've already said, Terry and the reoccurring injuries he suffers would be sitting on the bench - if you can't stay healthy enough to be on the field you are not going to continue to get your job handed back to you. I will now allow you guys to contemplate all of this while you tell yourselves that A.J. Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, and a collegiate player have been better than two LBs who broke the all-time tackles record at Penn State in back-to-back years as well as LaVar Arrington. I've enjoyed this, took me about 25 seconds to type and I had some time to waste...always fun to screw around with those on a team specific site who think they can claim titles given to a Universities football program.

And the most amazing thing is, even with all the amazing linebackers and secondary like King and Wallace PSU's defense still sucks! Should we thank the amazing PSU defense with the greatest linebackers ever and the best secondary for the Great Todd Boeckman entering the Heisman debate (albeit for a week)? I think so. Here it is: Thank you Penn State defense for singlehandedly flushing Todd Boeckman's name into the Heisman conversation.

It's amazingly easy to pile up tackles when you're not good enough to get your defense off the field Mr Lee and Mr. Conner. Thank you for playing have a nice day.
