OSU/PSU LB Depth (split from Dorian Bell thread)

Colasanti had 2 tackles last season. I'll wait for him to do something on the field before I take him over anyone. :p

It is also worth pointing out that we aren't switching 2 or 3 to DE or trying to work any of them in at FB - they are LBs period.

If anything, that is indicative of how deep OSU's corps is. There are so many players that are good enough to play that the staff is having certain players switch positions because they won't see the field otherwise. I don't see how it is any sort of indictment of the depth at the position.

Also, as of right now, this is still in the recruiting forum, so everyone please watch the language.

Bell wouldn't start as a freshman at tOSU? Why not...Your starting LBs in '08 are gone after the season is over, you know it and I know it so why your pretending you rotate LBs every other series is beyond my comprehension. Sabino will probably rack up 12 tackles all year long while not redshirting and you'll be proud that a 5* LB blew up some walk-on that plays for Youngstown State or Troy...that is awesome BRAH! [Okay...now I'm shittalkin]

Sorry, I might have missed something.

Did a Penn State fan just try to make a subtle insult at our schedule? And the irony of you making fun of a 5* recruit is laughable.

The discussion was at one point relevant to Dorian but has started to really branch off in some other directions, so I have split it off...

Some of you need to stop with the cursing in the recruiting forum...I am sick and tired of asking and am going to start handing out vacations.

I can't help myself...it's the weed, well that and Ohio State posters who think they have two of the best LBs this decade. That is wonderful.

Let us consider 3 Penn State LBs for a moment.

2000 NFL DRAFT - LAVAR ARRINGTON #2 OVERALL PICK
Two time first team All-American, Bednarik & Butkus Winner in college
3x Pro Bowl selection
3x All-Pro

2007 NFL DRAFT - PAUL POSLUSZNY #34 PICK SECOND ROUND
Two time first team All-American, 2x Bednarik & Butkus Winner in college
Broke LB Us All-Time tackles record previously held by Greg Buttle [now held by Connor]
Finalist for the Draddy Trophy
2x ESPN Academic All-American
ESPN Academic All-American of THE YEAR 2006

2008 NFL DRAFT - DAN CONNOR YET TO BE DETERMINED
ALL-TIME TACKLES RECORD AT LB U WITH 419 TACKLES
2X All-American
Bednarik Award winner
2008 Senior Bowl MVP

I'm assuming you were referring to production. I'd say Sean Lee is well on his way as well. How about Brandon Short. Sounds pretty productive to me, doesn't seem like a bunch of "star rankings".

There you go again, saying the exact same thing that you're arguing against.

You're quite obviously inferring that those three LBs have better resumes than the two OSU LBs that were mentioned. You're a PSU fan. Of course you're going to think that. We're OSU fans. Of course we're going to think that we've had the two best LBs.

Now, please address the counterpoints that 500 people have made in this thread, rather than moving on to something different.

it is amazing that as dumb as this guy is that he can even use a computer!! If you are just talking purely linebackers it is not even close as far as the future is concerned, and doent talk about the recent past. Future Sabino, and Sweat and probably Bell. Past Hawk and Carpenter, Present JL and Freeman. All these guys are as good or better than anyone Penn State has put out. But, lets talk overall team and recent success. We are the cream of the crop as far as talent is concerned, just ask any NFL scout!!! Granted Penn State is somewhat competative every other year and thats great for Penn State. We compete nationally EVERY YEAR!!! So keeping praying for second place every year in the BIG Ten while the Buckeyes are carrying your dead weight nationally to bring some respect to the conferance. When you mention Big TEN football no one is thinking Penn State, But they are thinking of the BUCKEYES!!!!

How would it be indicative of the depth at the position. You brought in 5 LBs in '06 - one was a 5* JUCO. One was moved to DE apparently...the kid from Cali I believe. With the other 2 at DE and the two LBs who are 6'1-6' 210-215 pounds you are essentially at 6 or 7 LBs we are clearly at 8 or 9. I'm not counting 2009 LBs so there wouldn't be a point in mentioning the 2 4* LB commits you have at this point - we will bring in two or three LBs this class as well so that will balance out. Pretty sure the comments with regard to watching the language is aimed at me, SORRY. Just funny to see a bunch of Ohio State fans actually trying to attack the depth Penn State has at LB and write off the players while saying stars don't matter but all the backup LBs at Ohio State would surely start at Penn State and are all great.

It is kind of hard for me to remember the LBs names when you got a JUCO starting at LB but want to claim LB U...LMFAO, certainly doesn't work like that. Terry? Constantly injured. Freeman...He wouldn't start in this HYPOTHETICAL situation because JL would certainly start, Lee & Colasanti would likely flank JL...we'll see who has the better respective senior season between Lee & JL for real though in '08 and that should be interesting. I thin Lee had 138 tackles last year.

Larry Grant will certainly be in the NFL draft, so regardless of where he started college (ahem JuCo national POY), he does indeed add to our LB U legacy.

And hypothetically speaking, senior Freeman would start over your precious 3-career-tackle Colasanti, hands down--probably Homan and Spitler and Terry, too.

I'm just going to leave you alone. You can't comprehend what we're saying, and you're putting words in our mouths. Nobody said all of our backup LBs would start at PSU. We said Marcus Freeman would, but he's not a backup.

You just love being hypocritical. You're bashing us for liking our LBs, yet in every post you spew out this foul text about how your backup LBs are all four star players and are better than our LBs. You're doing what you keep saying we're doing.

I would like to direct everyone's attention here for a comparison of OSU vs. PSU linebackers over the years.

Great work on the thread. I'll be sure to give you some greenies when I can.

I just wish Penn St would quit embarrassing the Big 10 with it's off field problems.

It would also help the Big 10 if they could quit sucking. A stronger Big 10 is a better Big 10. It'd be nice if they could pull their weight. Letting every big-time PA recruit leave to other Big 10 programs, Pitt, and the SEC isn't helping their cause.

It's gotta be a difficult pill to swallow when Pitt starts nipping at your heels for players PSU used to get. In there defense, Wanny does have a sweet mustache that is difficult to say "No" to.

For the sake of the Big 10, good luck.

How about A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Award, riiped off for Butkus...even Posluszny said Hawk deserved it) and Bobby Carpenter who both got drafted in the top 19 of the 2006 draft? And James Laurinaitis (All-American, Nagurski Award, Butkus Award, so far) would've been drafted higher than Connor had he not decided to stay for his senior year.

Keep trashin', dipshit...
