OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I do not think that eitherLighty or Conley are NBA ready offensively. Conley has not shown me a jump shot and and that is the same with Lighty but we all have our viewpoints and that's what makes this fun. Maybe in a few years it will be different. I do not see KK leafing after two years for the reason I mentioned above.

You have to remember that we are talking about these guys after their sophmore and junior years...

As for KK he is 7'2'' and can play from outside, the NBA will be slobbering over him after two years of college ball...

i think it will be interesting to follow the nba drafting process. in the past 8 or so years the trend has gone to potential, but they dont sit and develop the kids it seems teams are forced into playing kids to early.

will it go back to drafting the better players who can compete early and then the porjects?

i think the possible change in philosphy (if it occurs) will be interestin...

They aren't ready now, it's their third game in their freshman season. However, by the end of his 2nd or third season, Lighty might be NBA material... opening up a schollie for the 09 class. As cbf40 said, Koufos has tremendous upside with his size and skillset. I think someone would take a chance on him even if he doesn't pan out as well as hoped.

I like Thad using "The Game" to have a big recruiting weekend (I assume a bunch of the recruits visiting are pre-existing commits):

Matta, who is earning the reputation of being a master recruiter after signing consecutive outstanding recruiting classes at Ohio State, is taking full advantage of the hoopla over the Michigan game.
"We do have kids coming in. I know two years ago, my first rivalry game between the two teams, I've never felt anything like that. I hope on Friday night the fans use it as sort of a tuneup to get ready for the game on Saturday," said Matta.
"This is maybe one of the top-five college football games ever. For kids to see that, heck with them, so I can see it, (is impressive). I don't know the exact number right now. I would say 10 or 12 (recruits will be in), maybe more. I would venture to say 10 or more," Matta said.

I have to add my opinion on the topic of potential NBA players, I feel that Cook, Oden, Conley, Lighty and Koufos have an excellent shot at going to the league and being successful.

With a little development, Lauderdale could be a potential lottery pick in 4 years, he has the physical tools, mix in coaching by Matta and do not be suprised if he has an excellent career as a Buckeye. Some of you may not agree, but I believe he has what it takes.

It's definitely a great idea. For the football recruits the atmosphere off the field isn't something that really applies to them....but for the ballers it's another amazing aspect of the University that they can participate in.

I have no argument with that my question is what year do you think they will be NBA ready. I see Lighty as a four-year player and until MC shows me a NBA perimeter jump shot I will hold my opinion on him. There are a lot of college players with a better perimeter jump shot right now. I know that he will develop one in a few years but the question is when. I think that KK will stay at least 3 years because of his education.
After watching Cook last night, I think he will go after 2 years. I do not take that he values the college education as much as some of the other players and I don't mean that as a knock on him. He is a very good person but some guys just "enjoy" studying a little more than others.

I think the majority of you guyswill disagree with me but if we take 2 more guys in 2008 I think it is very important that one of those guys be Crater because we will have no scholarships for 2009 unless KK goes early...

If we have no schollys to offer for the class of 09 because all the guys Matta has recruited in the last few years are still here, I know I sure won't care

I view Conley and Lighty as a 3-4 year player. Cook will be gone after 2 years and Koufous could be one and done, he has a special combination of skills that will almost certainly make him a lottery pick.

Thank God the 5 and 8 rule was abolished!

Do you all remember the 5 and 8 rule that was gotten rid of about 5 years ago? You could only sign 5 players in one year and 8 every 2 years. Who would we leave off of the last two classes? It would be a disaster. Thank God someone finally stepped up and ended that stupid rule, or else we wouldn't be looking at nearly as amazing a class for 2007.
