OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

How does Tyreke Evans fit in? (assuming he eventually gets an offer)

With Oden/Cook projected to go pro, and Crater likely a buckeye, that leaves 1 schollie for Gates, Roe or Evans.

Might Matta be expecting a 1 and done in the 07 class, like Koufos?

I think you take Roe or Evans if you can get either...however, I personally think the decision will likely come down to either Gates or Babbitt...which is a tough one. Gates is a physical specimen who is athletic and can work the glass...Babbitt has the inside/outside game and is a bit more polished at this point.

IMO you take Evans no matter what. If that gives you 3 guards and not a true pg so what. Conley will still be here and Offut has played some pg in high school, even tho he is projected as a 2g.

There is no way you pass on a guy like Evans. He could easily be ranked the top player in the class of 08.

If we don't pull Evans I think Crater is higher on the board. We will have Mullens, Lauderdale, Kosta, and Madsen down low. I would still like another big, but the names that are popping up on the board are guys you just can't pass up. I also think that Wallace could get time at the 4 spot and we can go with an athletic lineup.

Ok so after looking it over(check thread for the numbers) I think we will have 5 to give so no problem with bringing in Evans/Crater, Evans/Gates, Evans/Babbitt, Crater/Babbitt, Crater/Gates... Either way it looks like we have two guards ranked 2nd and 3rd at their postiions respectfully and Babbitt/Gates who are also ranked very high that are interested and joining the program.

Overall I do believe that we are basically picking the guys we want...

It seems that Crater is the #1 target in the 2008 class right now, its an area of need.

I don't know if we are picking who we want, but we are definetly seeing tOSU recruit on a national scope now......remember that Matta is actively recruiting the #1 player in the 2009 class also, DeMarcus Cousins.

I agree about Crater, but if Evans starts to show more interest he moves up to #1 IMO.

If Matta can pull off Cousins that would just be amazing.

I think the majority of you guyswill disagree with me but if we take 2 more guys in 2008 I think it is very important that one of those guys be Crater because we will have no scholarships for 2009 unless KK goes early and I do not think he will because both of his parents graduated from college and that means something. Also, the only way that we can take 2 more guys in 2008 is if both Oden and Cook both leave early. Maybe I am looking at the numbers wrong but that is the way I see it.

We need a pg badly in the 2008 class unless you guys think Turner is good enough to play that role. That is why I see Crater as a must get for 2008.

Cook probably will go after his sophomore year as will Oden but I do not think he is NBA ready defensively. I know that he has another year but....

Oden is defensively ready??

Everyone says that is his strong point and offense is where he needs to progress.

I am thinking you meant Cook isn't defensively ready for the NBA and I would agree with you on that if I thought it mattered if you played defense in the NBA.

No one would disagree with that...Evans and Roe are guys you take no matter what. But Crater is probably the staff's #1 target...after that it is porbably either Gates or Babbitt.

Agreed...

I also think that both Cook and Oden will not be here for their junior years so we can take 2 more...

I do not even think that we haveroom for Cousins or anyone else in 2009.

I am not sheer but isn't it against NCAA rules to offer a scholarship if you really don't have one to offer. It might not be against NCAA rules but I did not think that TM would do that.

crazy buck, you type faster than I can talk. You must be talking about guys transferring because I do not think all of these guys are NBA material.

No transfers, just believe that tthere are guys that are NBA material...

See Jwinslow's post and mine for 3 guys that are probable by 09'.

Also anyone sure on Madsen's eligibility.

I believe he will be a sophmore when he steps on the court, but not sure...
