OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I see what your saying, my post does look more negative than I intended it to be. I apologize if people think I was trying to trash him. As I said earlier, I have heard nothing but positive things about him...he's the kind of kid you want in your program. I think I also said that dropping him out of the top 100 was too much.
Users occasionally get started on the wrong foot... usually fellow buckeyes. If you're here for quality discussion as it seems now, then you'll be a welcome addition. Well-balanced outsiders are always appreciated at BP.

No problem japage. I'm just lending some advice because I love outside input related to basketball (since football tends to mop up in that regard), and you have attempted to recover from the slow start. I'd advise to move on and forget the past.

Welcome to BP :osu:

I am going to take a little glance into the future...

I don't think we will bring anymore in in the 08' class unless a stud were to show some strong interest...

In 09' we will have 1 ship open...It is either stud or nothing...Matta has offered guys like Henry and Boyton, unless KK or Mullens were to leave early I would think it will be the best wing that wants to jump on board, if one of those guys leave we will be in the market for a big guy...Of course we have already offered Tresse so I am sure if he decides he wants to come we might bring him in as well...

The next major class is going to the be 10' class...I do believe that we will have 2 ships that year...One already taken by Sullinger, but I would fully expect Mullens and KK to be gone by then...I think that Sullinger will come in and fill the PF spot...

I would love a class of Sullinger, Howard, Kellogg and Thomas...That would be another major class, and if they were to pull in a guy like Tresse the year b4 we wouldn't have a need for a big man...If not we might be in the market for a C in this class...

All this was off the top of my head, so if something is wrong blame it on me not looking anything up...:tongue2:

I wonder if TMatta finds it difficult to determine what his recruiting needs are with all of the speculation about these guys leaving early ? It certainly appears that M Conley sorta left tOSU in the lurch by excelling and leaving early (not a bad thing for him, but still kinda surprising) but I wonder about KK and Buford and Mullens and the chance that they may leave early as well as others leaving after two or three years. It surely confuses me as to how many schollys will be available and what the needs are. Ah well what a great "problem" to have

This is confusing or I am just stupid:)

09 --we have a vacant scholarship (unless KK leaves after 2 years which would open up another scholarship)

10 -- Madsen & Lightly graduate which opens up 2 more scholarships for 2010(Mullens will probably be gone after 1 year so that will give us three scholarships for 2010). One of those three has been taken by Sullinger. I think Buford stays for at least two years.

Given the above scenario I would like to see 2 scholarships given out in 2009 and 2 more given out in 2010. I would like further classes to become more balanced and that is why I would like 2 scholarships given out in 2009 if KK does leave early.

I will agree with the fact that if we can only get 1 "stud" in 2009 that is all we should give out. As mentioned the number of scholarships and the type of players we will need it is difficult to figure out not knowing who will leave early.

good points. 2010 is interesting, though. sullinger is already in the class. matta would take thomas in a heartbeat. if kellogg is worthy of an offer, how does ohio state deny him? throw in howard as a possibility and i think that '10 turns out to be a 3-player class (provided one player leaves early). i'd say that there is still much time for these things to be sorted out; however, as we've seen, matta runs on a different schedule than just about everyone else.

With some of these guys (Mullens, Sullinger) committing so early and others leaving early, my head is spinning. I find it a little disconcerting that TM offers some of these kids so early. Sullingers father did say that he was told only under special circumstances are kids offered this early. Mullens, Offut and now Sullinger all seem to have that inner desire to be great that pushes them to continue to work even though their next goal is met (schollie to school of their choosing)

It should be thrilling as a fan of tOSU bball to watch how TM meshes and molds these teams what with some sort of projects and some superstars. This years team has the potential to remind me of the Illini teams of Liberty, Gill etc. that had great size, athleticism and versatility.

sorry I was a little disconcerted

my thesaurus was on the fritz:biggrin: , I guess it would be disconcerting if it turns out bad, amazing would have been better in that TM is confident enough in these guys to know they'll improve and not get complacent.

havent actally seen Sullinger or Howard, any more than a clip or two, but I have seen Kellog play twice now and IMO putting him at 3 is selling him short...

40, I have to call you out on this because you just reported that Howard has an offer per Rivals yet you say that we should not offer Kellogg yet because he is not better than Sullinger but up above you say you would not put Kellogg as the #3 player in the State but would have him higher. If that is the case, two of the top three guys in the 2010 class have offers but one of them who you would put as #1 or #2 does not. I think you need to explain

Like I said that that the only one that I have seen is Kellogg...I did watch that film of Sullinger and from everyones opinion that has seen him they put Sullinger as the number one prospect in the state...Therefore that is where I would rank him...

I am still a little skeptical of the the offer to Howard, b/c it was something of the effect of I want you to play for me...No written offer, just a verbal offer...I would still wait till next year to offer both...If Howard were to impress me enough after seeing him that he was better than Kellogg then we have a very good player on our hands...Howard is a true point and I think we will be more in line for that in 10' class than a wing...I would love to see Kellogg grow to be about 6'5''...

I think that we will give 4 ships in the 10' class...We lose Madsen and Lighty that year which would give us 2 ships for sure...KK will be gone by then, and there have been comments that the staff is just looking to take the best player they can get for 09', which leads me to believe that we will have 3 for sure in the 10' class...With the talent that we are brining in it is not out of the question to think that guys like Mullens, Buford, maybe a Turner, could leave early giving us that 4th ship...

I think that the 4th would be open for a stud like Thomas...Who I would love to land, but my money at this very very early stage would be with IU...

BTW IU is building back that program, along with MSU brining in good recruits...We are going to have our hands full with those two schools in the future, and there will be Big Ten teams sitting in the final four in the future if not 2...
