OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I actually want Mitchell more than Casey. Just love Mitchell's attitude and altitude. Elite defender who is rapidly improving.

Walker is a truly elite prospect and about as complete a PF as you could ask for at his stage. The down side with him is only one year vs. 2-3 from Mitchell.

Forgot about the fact that Walker is probably a one and done. Noticed yesterday that Mitchell might be a Tennecheat lean but he is a good friend of "Thunder" Thorton. Might have to take Casey as a default which is not all that bad. We shall see.

So is there on more spot in the '22 class then I am assuming? Class looks amazing so far and seems to fit some huge needs, but I didn't know if we had any spots left. Seems so, but I am not as up to speed on the bball recruiting.

We have a ton of spots for 2022. Probably as many as 8. We are graduating a TON (not many are going to use the extra year or are already on it) and EJ is likely gone after this season. Only guys likely to be returning for 2022-2023 are Meechie, Malaki, Brown, Etzler, and Key.

I think Holtmann takes 5 HS guys. Maaaybe stretches to 6 if the sixth is a top target that brings a needed element. And then the staff will definitely be looking at adding at least one immediately eligible transfer in the spring, probably a grad transfer since the 2022-2023 roster will be low on experience.

I think Ahrens might stick around for one more year. Probably a lot will depend on who we bring in that plays a similar position.

Holtmann might bring in 6 HS guys this year (have no idea who the sixth guy would be if in fact they do get Mitchell) but I cannot see him bringing in a grad transfer if he does take 6 HS guys. That would ruin the numbers for the class of '23 where there are some really good Ohio players.

Also if you are going to bring in a grad transfer you might as well bring in Walker, if you can get him, who will give you one year just like a grad transfer and probably a much better player.

Well, I mean, they aren't going to say no to Walker, they just aren't likely to get him.

A grad transfer would have no impact at all on the 2023 class.

I just don't see any way this staff isn't going to at least look at adding an experienced player, in the frontcourt especially.

As we all know, there is no rest for the weary when it comes to recruiting in college sports. This rule is especially true for basketball in the summer and fall, as they will start shooting out offers to players who are two or three years away from being in college. For example, Ohio State offered 2025 guard Darryn Peterson last week; for those counting at home, 2025 is a freshman in high school.

Ohio State’s most recent offer is not that young, but he is in the 2023 class. Matas Buzelis of Brewster Academy in New Hampshire recently received an Ohio State offer. Buzelis is a 6-foot-9, 175-pound forward who has skill and versatility with the basketball. He has shot up the rankings this offseason with a great summer of hoops under his belt.

Buzelis is currently ranked as a four-star prospect and is the No. 26 overall player and No. 7 forward in the class; he is also the No. 2 player in the state of New Hampshire, according to 247Sports.
