OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Does Ibrahima Diallo’s transfer open the door for a last-second BOOM?

But now that we’ve put the tissues down and wiped away our tears, let’s take a look at the X’s and O’s. Ohio State was maxed out on scholarships before Diallo left, and they now have one available scholarship. With injuries popping up constantly and COVID not even close to dead, there is effectively a 0% chance Chris Holtmann does not add another player to the roster following Diallo’s departure. The question is who, and how soon?

As of this past weekend, Cupps did not have any scholarship offers yet. However, he said Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Virginia, and Clemson have all been in touch. He does have two full years of high school left and plenty of time to collect offers.

“I have a bunch of interest,” he said. “At the end of the day, they are either going to recruit me or their not. All I can control is how hard I’m going to work and how hard I’m going to play.”

Regarding Ohio State, Cupps said, “I think (assistant Jake) Diebler has been in touch. They just want to see me get a little bit stronger and make sure I can guard at that level.”

Just wonderin': Why isn't Ohio high schools producing more 5 star basketball recruits, (i.e. bad coaching, best athletics play another sport, or other reason, etc.)? Besides LeBron going directly to the NBA, where have all 5 star players the like Jerry Lucas, Clark Kellogg, and Jimmy Jackson gone? Heck, I remember when Michael Redd was a high school senior (1997) he was actually ranked as the 3rd best basketball player (#1 Kenny Gregory went to Kansas and #2 Estevan Weaver forgot to graduate HS) in Columbus, Ohio. To some extent some of the problems Ohio State has in recruiting is the lack of instate talent. The Buckeyes really haven't cracked the ceiling and became a perennial national recruiter of top talent like Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Kansas, and (maybe) UCLA, etc. have.

5 Star guys signed by Ohio State since 2010:
Jaquan Lyle 2015 (Rivals)
D'Angelo Russell 2014 (Rivals and 24/7)
Deshaun Thomas 2010 (Rivals and 24/7)
Jared Sullinger 2010 (Rivals and 24/7)

Ohio high school 5 Star recruits:

2021 none
2020 none
2019 none
2018 Darius Bazley (Syracuse, but skipped college)
2017 none
2016 Omari Spellman (Villanova, partial qualifier), V.J. King (Lousiville)
2015 Luke Kennard (Duke), Carlton Bragg (Kansas)
2014 none
2013 none
2012 none
2011 none
2010 Jared Sullinger (Ohio State) Adrian Payne (Michigan State)

I really see no reason this was posted. I have made individual threads for every 2022-23 recruit that has a verbal offer from Ohio State.

I think you missed one:

Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne 2023 point guard Lawrent Rice is due to make an unofficial visit to Ohio State on June 17. He figured there was a chance he could come away with an OSU scholarship offer during that visit.

But it turns out Rice did not have to wait that long. OSU coach Chris Holtmann joined Rice and Wayne head coach Nathan Martindale on a three-way earlier today and Holtmann told Rice he had an offer from the Buckeyes.
