Interesting. We could use some depth at PG.

UMBC Retrievers' 5-foot-2 guard Darnell Rogers enters transfer portal

Rogers started all 20 games for UMBC this season. He averaged 9.8 points and shot 40% from 3-point range, helping the Retrievers to a share of the regular season America East title. Rogers took a medical redshirt season last year, leaving him with potentially two years remaining at his next school due to the NCAA granting every winter sport student-athlete an additional year of eligibility.

We could use some depth at the C. We need a 6'10 + type of guy who can go up against the big guys in our conference. I mean Key is a nice player but he has some limitations.

But we do have Key and he is gonna be a solid low-post guy.

To complement him, I would rather have a stretch PF like Hurlburt or Filipowski in the '22 class that can torch the opposing basket-bound big like Young was during the first half of the Purdue game Friday. By the time Key is a junior, you are gonna have a tough time finding a frosh big who would supplant him in his role. Back him up sure, but I think we might be better off trying to get a guy like that in 2023 and in 2022 trying to get a guy that could theoretically share the court well with Key at times.

But I surely wouldn't say no to a stop-gap big to help Key next season. Be it a year of Reid or a decent grad transfer. If Young comes back I don't know that we will be able to convince either option to come here, though.

New PSU coach Micah Shrewsberry’s arrival in foreign land delayed as six Lions prepare to leave

Three-fourths of the eight 2021 PSU rotation players entered the transfer portal on Tuesday – Myreon Jones, Izaiah Brockington, Seth Lundy, John Harrar, Jamari Wheeler, and Trent Buttrick. It’s easier to name the ones who, as of Tuesday night, had not yet – Sam Sessoms and Myles Dread.

Penn State 2021 player stats: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/penn-state/2021.html

Apparently Ohio State an has interest in John Harrar (PF, 6' 9", 240 lbs., 8.8 ppg, 8.8 rebounds/game, 1.3 assists/game) who would be a 5th year senior for the 2021/2022 season:

Currently, I think that is all I would do (show some interest) and wait to see who else might become available that is close to his size. Harrar does not have many offensive skills and is really not that mobile. I think that someone close to his size might become available in the portal.

Former five-star recruit Walker Kessler transferring from North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team after one season

Former five-star recruit Walker Kessler announced Monday he's transferring from North Carolina after one season.

Kessler released a statement on Twitter.

"While this season did not go as planned for our entire basketball community, the relationships that I have been able to develop this year will forever mean the world to me," Kessler said. "I am honored to have played for an amazing and historic program like The University of North Carolina. Gratitude is all I feel for my teammates, coaches, trainers, administration, and staff. During a very difficult year for all of us, they were able to help me to grow as a player and most importantly as a person.

"After careful and calculated consideration I will be entering the transfer portal. I wish the entire Carolina family the absolute best in the years ahead. Thank you TarHeel Nation!"

A 7-foot-1 center from Georgia, Kessler averaged just 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds during his freshman season at North Carolina. However, he came on strong late in the season. Kessler had a four-game stretch in February where he scored in double figures in each one, including 20 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in a comeback win over North Carolina Florida State*. He also dominated Notre Dame in the ACC tournament, going for 16 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks.

Kessler was a McDonald's All American coming out of high school, ranking No. 14 in the ESPN 100 for the 2020 class.

Just sayin': Maybe Chris Holtmann should check out this guy.....

JOHN HARRAR – PENN STATE GRAD TRANSFER

The one "knock" on Harrar is that he has a very similar game to Kyle Young. If the Buckeyes were to lose Young, who has to choose whether to come back next year after completing four years at Ohio State, then Harrar would seem to be able to slide right in and fit the system. If Young doesn't leave, Harrar might be a big of a redundancy.

EFTON REID – IMG ACADEMY FIVE-STAR

Since he is already a year older than most who are still in high school, he has the option to go pro rather than go to college. If he does pick the collegiate route, Ohio State is right there at the top of his list of suitors.

CHET HOLMGREN – MINNEHANA ACADEMY, FIVE-STAR

Ohio State is not out for Holmgren, and may actually be running second in his recruitment. It would just be a distant second, as Gonzaga has appeared to separate themselves as the leader in Holmgren's recruitment at this time.

UNKNOWN GRAD TRANSFER BIG/GUARD

One of those being discussed is taking a guard with the final (expected) roster spot. Marshall transfer Jarrod West is committing on Wednesday.

The Buckeyes have also reportedly reached out to Penn State transfer Jamari Wheeler and Seton Hall's Shavar Reynolds.
