OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

First off, we don't speculate about Buckeyes like that. Secondly, unless Grandstaff or Lyle are as good as D'Angelo when they get onto campus, Kam's got a huge head start in the race to be our starting SG next year, whether or not D'Angelo stays. Third, with Funderburke coming in, the potential future logjam is going to be at C (T.Thompson/Giddens/Bell/Funderburke-if he plays C), not at SG (Lyle is a combo SG/PG and we'll desperately need him at PG to platoon with Harris whenever D'Angelo does announce for the NBA).

Post amended..... I really like Kam, I just think (so far) he looks over matched especially in B1G play........ having said that thanks for your opinion and I actually agree with you that the logjam is in the big men but I doubt we will see Funderburke anywhere near C. He's stretch 4 all the way from what I can tell.

Well, I don't care to guess who would leave early or transfer but I believe the odds are certainly against 11 players returning when 9 or 10 of those guys are top-100 prospects with a lot of belief in themselves and surely they won't all be playing as much as they would like next year. But I do agree that Kam has a leg up for a couple of reasons, first his experiences as BuckTwenty says (I think it is notoriously hard for true freshmen to come in and shoot well), but also I think he is quicker/more athletic than most of the other guards they will have, and I think that is a key advantage as well. I'm hoping/expecting Kam to come around next year, certainly you could say it's his turn to take over one of those backcourt roles.

If you break down the potential 2016-17 roster, assuming Russell is gone, you'd have Harris as the pure PG, Lyle as the combo guard, Grandstaff the big shooter with some handles and passing and Williams the spot up shooter with quickness, Tate and KBD at SF, Loving and Funderburk (with some KBD) at the 4, and Giddens, TT and Bell at C. So yes adding another player at C would seem like an odd move from that standpoint that you already have 3 guys where that is the position they clearly fit in, to add to that would not make sense from a pure numbers standpoint.

But I wouldn't turn down Ward if he wants to join OSU because of his skill and size, I think he will be a very good college player and has probably the best back to the basket game compared to the guys OSU will have. Potter, I haven't seen much of him but he seems to have a combination of size and skill that isn't quite on the roster. I think King is just too talented to not let him in if he wants to come - you can always shift guys around to make room for him out there. And Simpson is I think a good college PG prospect, and with OSU only having one true PG on the roster it is a position of need in that sense. So all of those guys I wouldn't mind seeing OSU add for one reason or another, but I know they can only get a couple of them in this class.

Let us not forget that Mitchell played a little point forward for his high school team and from what I have read that was his major role so I would not discount him playing a little PG (please notice that I stated a little)..
I do not understand your statement regarding King. If you take Potter or Ward how do you move guys around to make room for him. I agree that he is too talented to turn down but if you have a full roster your are going to have to say No.
With regard to Simpson, I have not heard of him and did not see a thread in this forum on him.

Xavier Simpson, from Lima, top in-state PG prospect in the 2016 class and AAU teammates with Funderburk. Could help fill the need for depth/talent at PG.

Can you elaborate a little bit more? Who is BH? Are they implying Funderburk's commitment not solid?
Boarding House on Bucknuts. They have quotes from Potter post-Funderburk commitment. It sounds like OSU wants to try and fit both in if they can.

Here is a little article on Trey Lewis. This article was from March 30 and he would be a graduate transfer so there still would be 2 scholarships available if Russell leaves. Cleveland State lost to NJIT:wink: in the second round of the NIT so I could see why he would want to get out of there.
CLEVELAND - For the second straight year, Cleveland State's leading scorer is testing the transfer waters. Trey Lewis, who averaged 16.3 points and set the school record for 3-pointers with 93, has been given permission by the Vikings and coach Gary Waters to explore his options.

I did not know that the Buckeyes have 2 offers out for 2017. One is for Zach Brown of Miami Florida and the other is for Chris Giles of Plano Texas (sound familiar)
Brown is the No. 2 center and No. 5 overall player in the class of 2017, according to 247Sports' composite ratings. The 7-foot-1, 268-pound sophomore told 247Sports in October that the Buckeyes are among a growing list of schools — including Kentucky, Kansas, UConn, Florida and others — that are showing him the most interest.

Brown averaged 18.4 points, 16.5 rebounds and 6.9 blocks per game as a freshman, earning MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors.

Ohio State also has an offer out to 2017 shooting guard Chris Giles of Plano West (Texas), a high school teammate of Mickey Mitchell, who signed as part of the Buckeyes' 2015 recruiting class.
