Well, in addition to Giddens, Bell will only be a sophomore so I do not know how many big men we need. I would like to save at least one scholarship for a wing/PG type of player. Matta's Big recruiting has concerned me over the past couple years and we need to get it straightened out.

I am taking this up to the General Recruiting thread because we are getting way off topic.

Adding a C in the '16 class makes very little sense to me. We already have 3 Cs and they are only a class or two apart. We only have 1 true point on roster and he is really small. Lyle can play some point, but I don't think I'd put him in DARs class of being able to play it full time if needed. After that, we probably just take the best player we can get at any position, maybe a big wing (King or others) that can shoot or a 4 with some power/size (Giles/Funderburk). I don't think Ward is going to be a 4 in college, at least not the way Matta likes his 4 to play and I don't think he's quick enough to defend college 4's on the perimeter. It looks to me like he is bigger than 6'8" now and think he will be a good college C, but I dont' see him as a multi position guy. It sounds like Potter is really moving up, I just don't see why we'd go after another C.

While I agree in principle with what you are saying, I do not understand why Matta what extend an offer to Ward unless it is a offer and not a OFFER and why would he go up to Mentor on Monday evening to watch Potter because I am sure that he has some other things he could be doing. I agree that I am a little concerned about the PG position but I have read where Lyle and perhaps even Mitchell might be able to help out in that area. When it comes to that position Matta always seems to have something up his sleeve. If we can get a 5* wing, I really do not care who takes that other scholarship.

On another note, maybe Matta is just tired of getting outrebounded and is going to insert 2 bigs into his starting lineup.

I understand what you're saying, but this year's team actually has rebounded pretty well, especially given that it's height-challenged.

Russell and Tate have been monsters on the boards, all things considered. Tate will continue to be, for the next 3 years.

I don't think our rebounding has been too bad this year. I had hoped ST would get more than 4 boards a game given his quickness, leaping ability and amount of time on the floor and the bigs sometimes lose rebounds because of weak hands, but I dont' recall rebounding being an issue in too many games, maybe the UNC game.

The best reason I can come up with for why Matta is looking to add a C in the '16 class is because he doesn't have confidence in TT, Bell or both. A second reason might be because he thinks Bell or Giddens will play the 4 a fair amount, but I don't know how likely that is.

Clearly Matta likes to have a true center who can hold his ground against the bullies of the B1G. I don't know if he has that on the roster with TT, Bell or Giddens, and none of those three are guys that I would say are expected to develop into skilled scorers. So that is two elements of the C position that I think are lacking somewhat moving forward. I would add a C to the 2016 class if I were Matta, of course I'm assuming they will be able to add more than one player in that class. Take a Ward or perhaps Potter in addition to a guard/wing, and call it a class.

True enough, but college basketball really doesn't have many big-man "bullies" any longer. The really good big men only stick around for a year; what's left mostly is guys like Iowa's Woodbury and Wiscy's Kaminsky who are nonentities as frosh, but who put on some mass in a college S&C program so they can dominate as seniors.

Hammons is a bit of an anomaly.

Amir Williams is a conundrum.

The only PG that Matta seems to be high on that has mutual interest is Kobi Simmons, but it doesn't look like he has us in his top 3. After him, I'd like to see us get Funderburke and a big wing like VJ King or Braxton Blackwell. In the little bit I've seen of Funderburke, he's very athletic and has some skills on offense. I'm not sure if we'll see too much scoring out of Bell or Thompson, hopefully I'm wrong though.
Also, I also wouldn't be surprised if someone transfers out by the time the 2016 class signs either.

Your class would be a pretty good class if you ask me and I totally agree with your last statement about a transfer or maybe even 2. I have not seen much about King and who might be his leader but I certainly would welcome him along with DF.

This really belongs in the General Discussion thread so I will take it there after my response. I do not think that Matta would take 2 big guys in the upcoming class unless one of them is not from Ohio:wink: I do not think that Thompson, Bell or Giddens can play the 4 position so I would like for him to get a nice swingman who can play the 3 or 4 in the upcoming class or maybe he is going to change his offense to one that accommodates playing 2 big guys but I doubt that.

From everything I've heard and read, Potter is a stretch 4 type of player, really liking to get out on the perimeter and shoot the ball. Depending on his defensive prowess and if he could guard an opposing 4, he could be the type of player who Matta can use in order to go with two "big men" on the court at the same time. This would allow the 4 Out 1 In offense to still work with good spacing and what seems to be a current/near future roster made up of many guys who can shoot the ball. Add a Lyle or Harris, who seem to be able to penetrate the lane pretty well and look out...
