Any of you (besides your resident Miami hater) have a rooting interest in the Miami v. Michigan series coming up next weekend? Just curious... I know how you all hate Michigan.

#1 vs. #2. Believe it or not, a pair of tickets on E-Bay were bid up to $500 for next Friday's game in Oxford. Its damn-near impossible to get a ticket that's not 10-20x over face value.

Don't get too full of yourself redhawk. I just don't hate Miami of Ohio; I hate all of the little ankle-biting, back-stabbing Other State Universities. It's just that the precious and pretentious popped collar crowd in Oxford makes for such an invitingly broad target.

BTW, any of your students blow themselves up lately? Real winner you had there: spending Winter break hanging out with neighborhood 14 year old boys while criminally endangering them with his homemade pipebombs. You think this clown had ever even kissed a girl? Maybe some of the girls in Oxford should start putting out a little bit to keep your male students from having to release their frustrations through improvised explosive devices. Poor little Miami of Ohio; while Ohio State students were bringing home a Rhodes, a Marshall and two Trumans in the last 18 months, it looks as though Miami of Ohio will have to settle for a Darwin Award.

As for next weekend, Go Blue! Gotta root for a future member of the Big Ten Hockey Conference.:scum2::bigten2:

I see our friendly, helpful Miamite hasn't been back to subtly remind us that Miami of Ohio is ranked #1 in his usual smarmy, passive-aggressive manner.

OTOH, I take great amusement in the fact that apparently a sizable portion of their own student body can not take part in this #1 vs. #2 match without turning it into nothing more than a minor extension and faint echo of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.

Apparently, some students (especially the chode who was interviewed on the news while wearing the "O of excrement" on his head), need to be reminded of what school they attend

Tied Nebraska-Omaha 3-3 on Friday night, then came out and had their asses handed to them on Saturday, giving up four goals in the third period.

Now holding down second to the bottom in the standings. This was a program that was the preseason #1 just two short years ago before falling on its face during the season. Today, it's a program in free fall, and a serious change needs to be made. I don't care how much "young talent" is in the pipeline. Markell will fail to develop them and take the program to the next level just as surely as he failed to develop several previous highly regarded recruiting classes. It's been 10 years since that Frozen Four appearance, and it's time for Markell to be judged on what he's done for us lately.

Since the FF appearance, Ohio State has NOT won a regular season CCHA title.
Since the FF appearance, Ohio State has NOT won an NCAA tournament game.

In the last decade, before the program went off a cliff three years ago, we have several 2nd-4th place CCHA finishes, a few one-and-dones in the NCAA tournament, and one CCHA tournament title where we rode a hot goalie into an upset finish at The Joe--then went one-and-done in the NCAA tournament. This is not improvement, and it has nothing to do with talent. We've been getting our share. It's a matter of what the program has done with that talent once it's in Columbus.

One other thought, the experiment of building and NHL level arena for a college hockey program without a lot of tradition has proven to be a failure. 3K fans in a 20K arena does NOT make for a great environment. At some point, the administration really needs to consider building a 5K-6K, hockey specific facility on the site of the old ice rink--i.e. close enough to the dorms and High Street that we don't give students an excuse for not going to the games. Save the Schott for playoff games, NCAA tournament regionals and Frozen Fours and touring productions of The Jeffersons on Ice.

If we can find the money to make our new Women's Volleyball coach the highest paid women's volleyball coach in the country, we certainly can find the money to pay a top level men's hockey coach for what could (should) be a revenue producing sport.

Men's hockey: Goebel keeps energy at high level

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

For a young team struggling on the ice and trying to solidify its identity, seniors such as Tommy Goebel are invaluable commodities.
The Ohio State men's hockey team has improved of late -- 2-2-1 in its past five games -- and has 11 freshmen who have significant playing time. But besides trying to finish the regular season strong and have a prayer at the postseason, coach John Markell sees the contributions of players such as Goebel as nothing less than sterling.

Contnued......

On the USCHO boards, the NMU fans are pretty confident of taking four points out of Columbus this weekend. Not too sure that I can question that confidence.

Best case scenario, I think we put two solid periods together and get out of the weekend with a split.

Soooooo....how's that working out for you?:slappy:

Miami of Ohio gets within a grasp of playing on a big boy level for the first time in its godforsaken existence and promptly proceeds to fall flat on its face in a two week swan dive reminiscent of the '69 Cubs. I guess we'll have to put the Fredo "dynasty" on hold for a little while. Talk about pride before the fall.

You mid-major people should really know your place. How about in the future Miami of Ohio learns a valuable lesson from getting its fingers burned in the big time and decides to stick to what it knows best: mid-major obscurity and being the best overgrown boarding school that it possibly can be. Leave the big time to your flagship university up the road.

Two big series against upper echelon teams to close out the season.

Two in South Bend against the domers followed by a home-and-home against the talented, but choking of late, Miami of Ohio. Then a likely away playoff series against BG. It could be a very embarrassing end to an embarrassing three seasons to close against in-state Other State Universities.

Does an embarrassing season ending flameout against Other State Universities push Gene Smith to make a change? The Buckeyes have been playing better (by which I mean .500) hockey lately. Does a strong finish and a first round playoff win, give Markell another year to develop this year's young squad? Does Smith, under any circumstances, make the decision to buy out a coach in a non-revenue sport with two years remaining on his contract?

A great weekend for the Buckeyes that I never would have expected. Bucks went into South Bend and took home 3 points from the #9 ranked domers.

Friday night was particularly impressive. After giving up a quick goal in the first 4:00, I expected the floodgates to open. Instead, the Buckeyes played loose, confident and aggressive hockey and scored twice before the end of the period. Even with a 2-1 lead, they played aggressively in the third and didn't go into patented Markell bunker mentality to try and sit on their lead..

Next up a regular season ending home-and-home with the loathed Miamites. Of Ohio seemed to be going into one of their patented season ending choke jobs but had the good fortune to have CCHA bottom feeder Western Michigan on the docket for last weekend, winning on both nights. Let's see how of Ohio does against the CCHA's second worst team. Of Ohio is on the bubble for a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Let's see if the Buckeyes can push them firmly down into a two-seed this weekend.

They're known by many names...
Miami of Ohio
Miami (OH)
Fredo University
Fredo of Ohio
...of Ohio
"That school where the students blow themselves up"
or simply, "that overgrown boarding school."

We, however, know what they would like to be known as...
