You're welcome. Hey, the state currently has 2 #1 ranked teams in the national polls!

We have 2 against Notre Dame this weekend... Should be a good matchup.

Good luck to the Puckeyes.

p.s. Looking forward to the ILL game this weekend. My 2nd OSU football game ever.

Friday, November 9, 2007 3:26 AM

Brandon Scero had two goals and an assist and Nebraska-Omaha defeated Ohio State 5-2 last night in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game in Value City Arena.
After a scoreless first period, six goals were scored in the first 12:25 of the second period. Alain Goulet gave the Mavericks (2-4, 1-4) a 1-0 lead just 1:12 in when he scored on a power play. Less than two minutes later, Mathieu Picard tied the score for the Buckeyes (2-7, 0-5) with his first goal of the season.
Nebraska-Omaha scored the next three goals, including a power-play goal by Scero. Tom Fritsche scored for Ohio State to make it 4-2, but a goal by Scero in the third period completed the scoring.

First Steps towards Big Ten Hockey?

Sports

Let's hope so. The Big Ten says there needs to be six schools fielding a D1 program for it to be a sanctioned Big Ten sport. We're at five right now, and Penn State has a rather significant club program not to mention the football revenue necessary to fund the transition--AND NO; NOTRE DAME SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN AS A HOCKEY-ONLY SCHOOL.

I've always hoped that this might happen but always saw it as a longshot. I'd guess the BTN might be the catalyst finally pushing it forward.

It just sucks that we wouldn't be leaving the CCHA while on top. It's rather pathetic to possibly leave with our program in shambles and our tail between our legs.

My hope is that this is a transition stage. It will allow the BTN the ability to brand "Big Ten Hockey" while testing the waters for its revenue potential and give Penn State and Illinois some time to transition to D1 programs. Illinois might struggle given a sketchier cash flow from football and recruiting considerations, but I think Penn State could build a solid program given their football program's status as a cash cow and the school's physical proximity to the recruiting hotbeds in New England.

That would give us 7 hockey schools. If it proves financially feasible, then it would make good sense for other B10 schools to add D1 hockey. Northwestern, to me, seems like a natural given Chicago's history as a hockey town (until Dollar Bill ruined it) and the proven ability of other academically competitive private universities to field top D1 programs. Given their football situation, however, it would absolutely need to be predicated upon a proven, lucrative revenue stream from the BTN.

How sweet would a Big Ten hockey tournament rotating between Joe Louis Arena, The Schott, The United Center, and whatever the NHL facility in Minneapolis is.

Title IX considerations would need to be met and, again, my hunch is they would be predicated upon the BTN generating the necessary cash. I'd guess that there'd be a push to form a Big Ten women's hockey league, which I'd be fine with.

Plus, living in Chicago how great will it be to be able to watch Ohio State-Michigan or Ohio State-Wisconsin hockey in 42" of high-def.
